They replaced it once, but something In the rear has been popping/clicking for awhile now. Going to ask about it again at my next service coming up. I’ll have to see if I still have a video and post it up here.

Yikes i'm at almost 4k miles and haven't had any whining or anything on mine. Is that common? Hoping mine doesn't do it because I feel the cabin is already loud enough as it is.

It would actually be uncommon to not have the noise. Some configurations of the truck (i.e. dual cab, access cab, sport, OR, etc.) seem to be more affected than others, and suspension mods or lifts can affect it too.

My '16 had the diff whine for pretty much the entire time I had it (4yrs). Nothing bad happened, it was just annoying at times. I didn't "qualify" for the TSB as my truck was an Access Cab OR.

My '19 Sport DCSB has it too, but it's much less pronounced. Toyota has managed to dampen the sound somewhat.

I feel like at least 50% of the rear diff whine we all hear comes from reading about it on TW forums.

How did they manage to dampen the noise on your 19? I didn't think the TSB applied to our trucks.

I'm assuming Toyota made a production change after they "engineered" the dampening solution to this noise via TSB. I have read however, that it (the TSB) was not always successful.

I guess I got lucky this time around :notsure:

Nice man! Glad you got a good-er one lol.

My truck doesn't appear to have the revised cab mounts which were part of the TSB so im wondering if it even has any "dampening solution".

For those of you living with the noise:

I've read people claim Valvoline Synpower gear oil makes their diff noisy, so they have to use Mobile 1. And I've read people claim exactly the opposite. It appears there are suble differences in the oils that either supress the noise, or don't, and different oils work for different difs.

If it was me, I'd pick up a few bottles of different brands, and change the oil a few times. Maybe one of them will be quieter.

Are there no aftermarket dampers that can be installed on the driveshaft or yoke for persistent noises like that? Similar to the ones on GM’s?
How about changing the fluid weight (something heavier) or some kind of additive?
I don’t have the howl, but i’m pretty sure it would drive me nuts so i’m just curious.......

Sounds like cheap foreign made ring/pinion with improper heat treatment. Especially since some are on their second ring/pinion fix, and the noise comes back by 1K.

Be interesting to see someone add an aftermarket quality brand name rear ring/pinion with professional setup and see if noise persists.

How hard is it to make something correctly that has been manufactured for over 100 years?

    No 1911 jokes please.:rimshot:

Any chance someone has examined the noise is being transferred up the driveline and distributed to the frame and cab from the barring carrier mount? Its it seems like a direct contact with the noise source and frame. 5 years later Im sure someone has tried messing with this, but thought I would through it out there.

Some guys that get leveling kits done have said the noise goes away afterwards. I would assume it’s from the spacer blocks on the leaf-springs, but maybe it’s subsided from spacers being added to the bearing carrier mount to avoid the driveline vibration. Or a combination of both. Or their new AT tires hum enough to drowned it out.

Installing the revised cab mount from the TSB quieted things down slightly. Installing the cab insulation foam listed within the tsb made no difference.

Probably the only real solution will be installing a better made differential from another marque

Well,I picked it up this morning and, so far, it's much quieter. They diagnosed the problem as a scored bearing and replaced the differential part 41110-0K650.

There's still a hum from it under certain conditions, but it's nowhere near what it was. They told me it it'll make some noise because I, "have a manual transmission." Uh huh, okay... For now, though, I'm happy with it and hope it holds.

Scored bearing now?? Not really a fan of Toyota being all over the map with this stupid thing...
