Used a screw extractor to remove mine when I stripped it. Worked fine.

Thanks for the info! Just ordered 2 of them. 1 for my Tacoma and 1 for my wife's 4Runner! The 10mm front diff drain plug on the 4Runner is stripped, which I'm sure is going to be fun to remove.

My standard procedure for removing these drain plugs is to first put a torch on it before I even try to loosen it. :)

Thanks for the tip! just installed this today, going to make changing the front diff fluid so easy from now on. Also did the transfer case and rear diff so my fluids are looking good.

Thanks for the find, I just order one of these Lexus drain plugs.

I haven’t changed the fluid yet, but for those of you that had a stubborn drain plug, did any of you find using a torch to heat it up helpful? I see that most people are resorting to the hammer and chisel method.

    thanks

I was expecting a battle with mine, but I took my time and cleaned out the hex hole really well and made sure my quality 10mm hex socket (I used a Snap-on socket) was fully inserted and seated in the hole. Then just applied a chit ton of muscle and it came out with zero damage.

I’d be skeptical of using a torch. I’d use an impact over a torch.

Just take your time and you should be fine. No need to over complicate it.

Thanks I’ll give it a try without the torch, I’ve hit it a couple times with PB Blast, which usually is a huge help, I don’t think people let it sit long enough for it to do any justice.

Penetrating oil is not going to do anything in this situation. The crush washer is going to keep it from getting anywhere that will do any good. Pounding on the bit may do a little bit of good as it may crush the crush washer slightly more. As mentioned, use a quality bit and lean on it. If it rounds out, then break out the hammer and chisel.

Just think of all the relaxing front diff drain and fills you’ll have after putting the new plug in!

The factory torque specs on this are oddly German: goodentight.

I ordered two (for 2016 Tacoma & 2015 4Runner) from below and I think I paid $7-$8 shipping. Total $25.07. I did not get any order confirmation or any shipped confirmation. Just a paypal payment notice from PayPal to AutoPartsPrimeInc. Not a good business practice.

Next time, I'll order from SS-Parts as you linked.
