This is an ongoing question between the wife and I...

Whenever i eat out at a restaurant i ALWAYS tip a solid 20%, im a huge advocate on that, but one thing that i always get stumped on is: what is standard policy on tipping the pizza guy?

i usually tip the driver just because i know they get paid the same and they use their own vehicles for the delivery, so i feel bad that they are burning their gas, wear and tear on their vehicle, etc.

but what about when i order for take-out? i havent been leaving tip, but when i sign the check, the tip blank stares at me..what does everyone else do in this situation?

Holy crap where were you when I was delivering pizzas in college?!

I usually tip the pizza guy $2 but I live in a small town so it's a short drive.

I wonder the same thing. The guy doesn't do anything special. You wouldnt tip your cashier if you bought a frozen pizza at the grocery store. They do about the same thing.

i agree, i hate that, the pizza place is literally a 5 min drive for me, so i dont mind going and picking it up to save 5 bucks, a 10$ pizza turns to 15$..gotta pinch those pennies now a days

As a former delivery guy for domino's pizza, i can tell you there are many people that do not tip. Ive had tips any where from 0-80 dollars.

We get paid minimum wage, the delivery charge goes straight to the store, and we get like 30% per delivery of what ever gas is.

For example- i work a shift at $7.50hr

I take a delivery to someone who is 10 miles away. I get paid by the hour, then whatever the tip is. And if gas is at $2.75 gallon, then i would get roughly 92 cents.

so if i take 25 deliveries that night in a 8 hour shift, i will make $83 plus tip. But you gotta remember, the gas is just for the gas. So really your making 60 plus tip for a whole night of work.

The tips really do make a difference, and will really make or break a drivers night.

On average i hope to get 3-5 dollars in tip per delivery. The highest ive gotten was a 80 dollar tip on a 300 dollar order.

You have to remember that the driver is driving to your house, through traffic trying to get you your food while it is still hot. It is a very fun but can be stressful at times.

    TIP THE PIZZA GUY

At least at dominos, the delivery charge goes straight to the store, not the driver

Good for you, i would give you a 5 if you delivered my pizza in a 4x4 Taco!

Also tip the bartender who gives you the carry out. They gotta take the time to put your shit together. If I get Mexican food for the family of 5 on carry out, that dude is doing some work!
