850 bucks for transmission lines

    took my truck to the dealer for an estimate to replace the steel lines coming off transmission. 850 estimate wtf are they crazy?

    Yes they're crazy, and have a huge overhead to support. Go to a trusted independent, I'd be surprised if you had half that in it, total.

    I replaced the one in front of the radiator myself, easy. I'm about to replace the ones that come off the transmission, as they are starting to look pretty bad. To get me through winter, I covered them in POR15. Compression fitting on one end of those and a clamp on the other. I'll spray it down with PB for a few weeks before going at it. The ones in the front are just clamps on each end. If you search, there are quite a few posts here about it. I thought about just cutting out the rusted area on the lines underneath with a tubing cutter, and replacing with rubber hose, but I'm afraid metal shavings might get in the line. If I'm taking the line off anyway, I may as well just do it the right way. Some people here have made their own lines, but I don't think I want to chance making that compression fitting myself. That's a low pressure line, but when I did a transmission flush, I saw that it doesn't take long to dump the fluid out of the transmission.

    the idiots messed with the lines at the deasler and it poured out whrn my wife picked the truck up and drove it home. she didnt know it poured out until she tried to make it up the driveway thrn the rest poured out on the driveway. she said she barely made it up the driveway because it was slipping. it only had a slight drip when i brought it to the dealer for an estimate. wtf did they do to mske it pour out. sll they had to do was look at it and give me an estimate
