2nd Gen hand brake conversion

Makes it easier to pivot into those tight parking spots with a cutting brake.

 

It definitely is. Took while to get it right but now that it's done, the option for single(normal) hand brake or dual lever is there. Going to be testing things out this week and see how they go. If it works how I plan, I'll move forward on creating a file for the mounting plate I made. The plate is was makes this an easy bolt in option. Granted, you would need to clear the center console a bit.

Removed all that then added the parking brake switch assembly to both levers so the dash light would work when either is up/engaged. The same could be done with just one lever.

 

That is a nice set up, I want to go with a taco box, but that is years down the road for me.

 

Be sure to cut a little at a time. Smaller hole for less road noise. Also, if you do the twin stick FJ case at the same time, take caution when cutting for that too. On my first truck I cut the hole too big and eliminated one of the mounting holes for the factory parking brake cable mounts and left the foot parking brake feeling soft. On the second truck I was able to cut a lot less and kept both holes

That looks GOOD! That’s basically what I did. Hard part was making it all bolt on and to fit under the center console. Lots of stuff had to be removed/moved. Plus all the other sticks that are in the way.

 

Which hand brakes are those? Did you edit/reverse the right one? That was the most involved with cutting and rewelding the brackets to be reversed.

What are the odds we can get an update and maybe a write up on this? I'm surprised this is the first time I've seen this done, you would think people might find this to be a useful mod if not for the duals, then at least for a single normal hand brake.

 

Definitely need someone to start this mod and see final product.

 

Looks like I'm a little late to this party. However, let me say I am VERY interested in getting rid of my foot brake emergency brake pedal. I'm so keen on this that I think foot parking brakes should be illegal. I've hoped some car makers would have started the ball rolling by now. Somebody please let me know if this idea has born fruit. Thanks.
