I can’t even imagine doing that in this point in my life. Good luck.

I didn’t want to start a new thread on a question I have. Hoping someone in this thread/group might be able to help me out. I have a piece of furniture that I refinished a few years ago. Just recently, my wife put a scent plug-in on the dresser and it spilled without us knowing. Long story short, it looks like it ate through the clear. How would I go about fixing this? Thank you for any advice/help.

If you have dogs you may want to get those out of the house. My dog was having a real rough time with allergies till we finally tracked it down to the plug in air fresheners. Got rid of them and she was better the next day. Vet said it was fairly common for dogs to be sensitive to them.

So, sand it back down to bare wood, stain and re-clear? FML.... I'm about to throw away all of those damn plug-ins. Thanks for the information.

    Thats probably the best solution.

Before that you could try a 50/50 mix of lacquer and lacquer thinner. You’re trying to get the clear shinny coat back. Do the whole top. Might take a couple coats. If it doesn’t work, you’re only out some time as you’ll know for sure you need to sand the whole top at that point. Best case scenario, it worked and you didn’t have to sand or try to match the stain.

Thanks. Definitely worth a shot before taking it all back down to bare.

I would but that's me. In my personal experience, I've never been super happy with a patch job on most any clearcoat. Looks like its completely missing some in those spots. Id still knock down the edges of the damage area to get rid of all the loose/flakey stuff before attempting the easy fix. It still wont be perfect, but most normal people wouldn't really notice if you do a good job.
