Yokohama Geolandar MT-G003

Ive so far left mine at the 32PSI Discount Tire put in them. They do have a little bulge, but not much. They dont feel squirrely or anything at all on road. I know the inflation tables almost always say that 35 is the minimum on a LT tire for light trucks.

I will note, on the FJ they are a touch smaller than I thought theyd be. They look huge on those Tacomas but it must be the larger wheel wells. Mounted at 32psi they measure 32.5" tall. The tread is exactly 7.75" wide. I have them on 16x7 OEM wheels. Im happy, they just dont look at huge as the Toyo MTs are known to look (TOYOs are a bit a larger from what I gather, MUCH heavier, and more expensive...so screw that)

To my eye, they are one of the skinnier looking 255/85s available. From front or rear they look kinda narrow but the profile is great.

I'll probably end up with these in a month or so. We should get out some time in the spring and give them a run!

 

Yes!. My wife has invited an out of town friend with kids to hang out MLK weekend...I may just plan a trip then!

 

Agreed. Off road I love the MAXX, on road they are stiff but other wise great. I'm on 255s so all side wall, which likely makes it worse.
I think I'm set on 295/70r17s, just need to get seats to the tire/holidays cash fund battle royale.

Very nice looking truck. I like how the tires transform the look of it. It has narrowed down my decision to go with the 255 pizza cutters. I was wondering if the mud flap removal was necessary or was it for aestethics? I plan to keep mine stock height and run 255's for a little height increase as it is a daily driver and don't wish to go to the point where the family has difficulty getting in and out.

 

Just took them out exploring Rasor OHV and Mojave. They performed really well.

 

265/75/16? Hard to tell when I zoom in, gets too blurry. How is the highway noise with these compared to anything else you've ran in the past?

They're louder than my wild peaks but not nearly as loud as other mud tires I've ridden on.

 

How do these track on the highway at 75 mph?

Do they wander? I don't need an MT, but these tires are so badass.

I generally drive my truck fairly quick around town and hang turns with as much speed as my stock TRD OR will let me. I also don't want to babysit the steering while doing 70+

This might not be the tire for me on a daily driver...but I sure do want it.

 

Mine track great, especially for being a skinny tire. I also drive the hell out of my truck especially in the windy curves of the mountains. They handle great.

 

How were they in 315s? I don't want them pulling me all over my lane on the highway at 70 mph.

Even my stock OR tires sometimes try to send me creeping left one second then right another second.

Obviously hanging corners and driving highway aren't what MT tires are meant for...but is this tire good at those things? Too good to be true?

 

They drove better than the ko2s I had on there before by a long shot. I drove that truck from Denver to the Grand Canyon on those tires no problem. I don’t really pay attention to pulling. The roads here will pull you any which way anyways.

I've never owned any MT tires on my personal vehicles before...but have driven full size trucks with them. The best MT experience I had were some 35 x12.5 x22 Toyo Open Country MT on a 2017 F150 that my friend let me drive for a week. Those tires seemed very well mannered around town and on the highway.

Just wanna make sure I know what I'm getting into with an MT on my daily if I do that. I figure these will be louder than the F150 experience I had since the Taco generally has more road noise inside anyway.

Why did you go 255 skinnies this time?

I havent ran 315s on this tacoma yet I actually plan to move up to them before this spring with the g003s. I went with the skinnies because I wanted the tallest 33s available and enjoy skinny tire performance.

Also if you go to Yokohama website and read about these tires all of there flames of being better we’re in comparison to the toyo mt

 

I did notice they compared it to the Toyo MT on theie site. Ha. What do you like about the skinnier tires? I'm fairly new to off roading so I might be missing something obvious.

 

A benefit for me is winter weather traction and traction in general is supposed to be better than wider tires due to more force applied to the ground because there is less weight distribution. I’m not sure if it’s truly enough to make a difference or not. The biggest reason I went with them is they are 33.3” tall over 32.9” in a 285 (hardly anything I know), and they take zero trimming to fit. The idea of cutting to fit 33s was silly to me when there’s a better (IMO) 33 option (255s)

 

There are a lot of scenarios where wider is better. Anywhere that you need to float on top of a medium is where skinny tires get you in trouble. This includes deep snow, sand, deep shale rock (think scree slopes), etc. Skinnies are good for shallow snow where digging through to solid ground is helpful, especially on road. This all assumes you can run the same diameter tire in both sizes. If you can fit a 35" skinny but only a 33" wide tire then things get more complicated and skinny starts to look better due to the longer contact patch making up for the lack in width.

 

So size dose matter !

 

At least off-road or on forums. For those who don't wheel and only post pictures of their truck online, well you don't really need big tires. You just need a good camera angle..
