Looking to be out in Death Valley for the week of the first week of March. Holy cow all of furnace creek is booked! Everything else is no reservation, just hope its not too crowded as its not a holiday and no scheduled events.
Thinking mostly europeans and snow birds... :annoyed:

Anyways belive I should be able to snag something for the first night around Furnace Creek.... Doing the full loop after that. Maybe Sat-Friday~

Anyone going to be in DV around that time?

I will be going in Late March hopefully! You can probably snag a spot at desert camp south of Furnace Creek. I think its pieces of slabs you can park on. LOL

Lots of camping in and around that area. I've camped at Furnace Creek in the past but now seek solitude away from the crowds.

No clue what place you're talking about other than the Indian Village south of Furnace Creek and doubt they want people camping in their neighborhood.

I believe what's being referred to is a spot just outside the park south of Furnace Creek on the 190:

Spent four days in the valley last week. Weather was just about perfect, did three new hikes and met up with @turbodb for a day. Hard to imagine a better trip!

I haven’t been into the valley itself on my last 3 or 4 visits to the National Park, so its been about 4 years, but I have never had trouble finding a campsite even in season. To the west, in Panamint Valley, Saline, near Darwin (just outside the park) etc it’s easy.

Best I could find is that it is a former mobile home site for employees of the Billie Mine over by Ryan. On the 7.5’ map it is labeled “Trailer Park” and there are also labeled sewage ponds just down slope. There are reviews and photos on a few free camping site pages and it seems to be known by the moniker “The Pads”. I usually see a few RVs using it.

You should be fine with stock tires as others have said. Take it slow and watch what you're driving over and you should be fine. Be sure to air down, that will help too. Full size spare that's in good shape, plug kit, and compressor and you should be good. I did a few trips to death valley on the stock tires and was fine.

Thank you. Since I mostly stick to western DV it doesn't surprise me I'm not familiar with it. Just another reason to explore the east side more and your recent reports truly inspire me to do so.

Based on the advise it got here I am taking my fam on an overnight 2/29-3/1. We will hit Titus Canyon and down toward racetrack. We plan on primitive camping somewhere between the Playa and Ubehebe Crater. Hitting the playa the next day and heading back. If you see me wave

There isn't much primitive camping that I know of between Ubehebe Crater and the Playa. I did see a couple rigs off the side of the road a couple years ago but they were not legal per park regulations AFAIK. You can do Titus to Homestake in one day. It will be a long day but it is doable.

I was going off this map.
    https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/upload/508-Backcountry-and-Wilderness-Access-map_.pdf
Looks like anywhere that isn’t yellow is ok for dispersed camping. I was thinking about going to Lost Burro Gap or one mile from teakettle junction.

    Is my understanding incorrect?

Glad you like it! Sent you a link to a full resolution version so you can crop and resize as you like for the phone.

Shot is from extreme southern Death Valley near Saratoga Springs. The mountains in the background are the Avawatz Mountains.
