Let me ask. Why an axe? How about a saw?

I went with the Fiskars 46" Steel D-handle, everything but the handle is all steel, only about $27 the company puts out good quality products in general, I also got the Fiskars axe to go with it. I have nicer axes (Gransfors Bruks and Wetterlings, but don't want those sitting in the elements and within view of prying eyes)

Small, wood handle one from Home Depot.

Don't spend too much on it.

When you snap it trying to move a rock you won't be as upset.

Why a drill press and not a lathe?

I find a saw works much better on cutting something than chopping it. A small hatchet yes, axe no, a drill that I can press on before an axe as well a digging/prybar. [IMG]

    Working on them
I went with a Murder Spork ( Krazy Beaver Shovel ) Braces myself for the comments coming :crapstorm: yes they are way more expensive than the common ones but it depends on what you want the shovel for along with type of Terran you expect to dig yourself out of. I have had mine digging in some really hard rock filled dirt and dig it will do just last week we had to dig a side x side out that both rear wheels were frozen in 6 inches of solid ice if it was not so blasted cold it would had been fun. < https://krazybeavertools.com/collections/frontpage/murder-spork >

Lowes shovel spray painted black so it doesn't stand out and mounted to the bed rail with Relentless Fab mounting brackets. If someone walks off with the shovel I'm only out $30 bucks.

    Rinse and repeat.

Any decent shovel. Fiberglass weathers better, but if you really like wood, get a PVC tube with a plug and soak the handle in boiled linseed oil for a couple of days. Pull it, dry it, and rub down with steel wool. Repeat yearly and it will last many years

The last shovel I carried on my truck had a fiberglass handle but the inside portion was wooden (couldn't tell by looking at it). After less than a year the wood had swollen up and completely cracked through the fiberglass handle.

Been carrying an all steel one for a while now with no issues.

Might as well bump it up to 9 axis, CNC, and it's still a lathe.

Liking my Bully tools, D handle. Hasn't seen a lot of heavy use but digs a nice shitter hole, moves some snow and clears/buries coals nicely.
