    Fellow Coasties, the more aggro you get about the Coast Guard’s contribution to our nation’s military history, the less seriously they take you, and by extension, the rest of us. Please just remind them of the things we do and try not to get upset that we don’t do what the others do because we are smarter than them.

    This obviously depends on what job you do in the Navy, but my friends tell me ship life goes about like this:

    >Join the Navy, make fun of the Coasties. Hooyah gavy.
    >Realize you're worse than a wage slave
    >Become a depressed alcoholic.
    >Realize Coasties actually have it pretty nice.
    >Regret not going into the Coast Guard.
    >Get out and start a T-Shirt company and claim combat veteran from a float around Bahrain.

    I was much happier being in the dirt

    Nah, other branches hate Air Force because they're unprofessional/unmilitary, have terrible bearing, constantly spoiled pampered and babied, all while living on lavish military bases. Yet Air Force guys still claim that they struggled as much as a grunt because they retained a civilian equivalent job while wearing a uniform and paying for a DUI.

    EDIT FOR CLARITY: Obviously there's outliers to this for the Air Force, but this is the general consensus about the branch as a whole. Most Air Force guys don't even rate veteran status.

    It’s not the reason no, but it also doesn’t help. Act like an occupying force, and don’t treat the locals like human beings and rocks thrown at your vehicles is what you end up with. Also for what purpose? Just to be an asshole? I could wrap my head around throwing a rock back first. Maturity, human decency, and not acting like a joe can go a long way.

    Hey now! I gave CG actual real credit a few posts down, aside from friendly poking. Then you had to post the “Tip of the Spear” article about container inspections. The article made it start all tactical and hooah... then went full inspection. Not sure about all the branches but typically, tip of the spear is the guys kicking in the door and engaging in direct fire actions. Container inspection is an important aspect of foreign affairs and policing your forces BUT it’s not spear tippy, and that name; RAID?! I expected them to be embedded providing intel or something, but no, it’s redeployment assistance and inspection detachment (RAID). I bet their company call sign is Death Dealers too... sorry brother, even the second article didn’t really help with the attempt to make the CG into a tactical assault force.

    Like @Kremtok said, stick to actual contributions instead of embellishing a role.

    Once again I’ll say it, CG does some great and amazing shit. Keep international waters safe from drug runners, pirates and engage in more risky rescue missions then I can imagine. Keep that in mind the next time we give you a hard time.

This DFAC is like Denny's! Your billeting has mattresses and air conditioning?!?" Y'all lost your fool minds when you got a 3-stamp ration card to enjoy "beverages" at "the bra" ooohing and aaahing at the bones doing afterburner take-offs.

    There was a manicure place on Al Udeid that was CONSTANTLY full of Army dudes getting 6- or 9-months of callouses scrubbed off their feet with cheese graters.

    Take that "hatin' on the zoomies" shit elsewhere.

    Let's face it.

    We all equally suck.
