3rd gens with aftermarket wheels & NO LIFT

Fn Countersteer X 17x8 -10 offset - 265/70-17 Falken AT3W

mudflaps gone, they rub badly enough I'll need to address with 5100's or a spacer. Looking for input on best option, this is a highway warrior and I like a slight rake with the front lower. But I need clearance.

 

Well guys just got the approval my company (family owned) is paying for the full set! Wheels and tires! We had a great year an been busting my ass so I earned it, but don’t have a lift any recommendations?! Ima stay with no lift but I want a great offset and maybe k02’s? Idk, just love that wide wheel look

 

You got 27 pages of recommendations. Can’t think of a better way to pick then looking at other Tacoma’s.

 

Do you know exactly where the front is rubbing?

If you've removed the mud flaps, I'd be will to bet you're rubbing on the front inner fender plastic. This area can be easily trimmed or remolded with a heat gun/hairdryer enough to eliminate the rubbing. Any trimming/molding you do will cause zero mechanical or performance issues, and can be done in a way that is not at all noticeable to the onlooker.

My suggestions are solely based on the rubbing being on the front side, and is simply meant as an option to modifying the suspension and playing the rake game.

Thats what I was referring to. I'd lean towards trimming/molding plastic before I started putting on lift of any kind, but its clearly your truck/your choice.

A lift might satisfy some aesthetic desires, but there can be unforeseen hurdles produced as a result. That and a lift isn't always a guaranteed fix to rubbing.

 

Thats true, I'm tempted to try out a 1/2" spacer to just bring it up slightly. I'm happy with the stock suspension, only other alternative I see is going 5100's on a low setting or changing the tires to a smaller size.

 

I’m assuming rubbing mainly a mall crawler question? For Mall Crawlers a little rubbing shouldn’t make that much of a difference, should it? If so, heat/bend or cut a little and you’re still looking good.

For those that take their Taco’s off the city roads they’ll probably get the suspension lift and appropriate sized tires for clearance because you know you can’t run the risk of failure.

Guess I’m getting old and needed to ask...

 

Mall crawling, fire roads, nothing crazy. I have a dual sport for the trails. But I definitely underestimated how large the 265/70r17's are but maybe this truck sits a little lower.

 

The rubbing you're experiencing has more to do with the specs of your wheels rather than that tire size. The -10 offset has pushed the wheel/tire nearly 1.5" out of the wheel well than it was with the stock wheels. That 'stance' now puts the whole setup closer to those plastic bits and the cab mount as you turn and encounter off-camber situations. A lift will help, but I'd be willing to gamble you'll still rub in certain scenarios. Less often though.

 

Yeah its a real bummer, I don't feel like I was given honest input from the wheel supplier on fitment.

Looks good! Do those fit without spacers? I sent an email to Motegi about the MR149 and MR150 in16x8 and they told me they would not clear the Tacoma front calipers? So I ended up going with Method Race 702 in 16x8. I guess I talked with someone who did not know what they were talking about?

 

Hey bud, I have the same tires and am about to get the same SCS wheels. I was wondering where you are rubbing and do you think it would be an easy fix with a dremel and heat gun? Some people are reporting no rubbing after taking off mudflaps but another guy just said he had bad rubbing and his wheel is .5 inch less wide.

 

The rubbing will not go away unless you aggressively trim near the mud flap area or bend fender seams. It's just the combo of the wheel offset and tire size.

 

Yes they clear with a good amount of space, I emailed them too and got no response, so I ordered them and test fit before getting my tires mounted.

 

Yea, I emailed them a couple times before I got an (incorrect) response. Well, is good to know. I do like my Method 702s but they are 3-4lb heavier than your Motegi MR150.
