The first time I really got her stuck. I was going out to cut some firewood on a rainy day...and in order to get there I had to drive some muddy roads that I built out behind my house. I didn't get far...a little further than my shed. I'm currently still stuck and am having my friend pull me out tomorrow morning. Any tips would be appreciated to get my out. I threw down plenty of sticks and rocked her back and forth a lot. Also...what should I do when I get her out...I know I ought to pressure wash it all over and stuff, but didn't know if there was anything else. Thanks for the help and enjoy the pics:

rinse it first to get the mud (or dried dirt by that time) off then pressure wash from a distance for the exterior and get the frame pretty good. i assume youve tried steering until full lock and reverse so you look pretty stuck no locker i presume (sr5 correct) so looks like you gotta wait it out, your lucky to have roads like that on your own property ;) wish i had some

I don't know if a locker would have got me out, but I definitely know that i wouldn't of gotten stuck in the first place if I had a locker. The funny thing is that I had just swapped my tires out for winter from 285's with real good tread to 265's with iffy tread. I think I may have done better with the 285's. And yep I got out...I had me friend hook up to me with his jeep:(, and he pulled me right out. I'll post some pics soon on the recovery.

    Scott,

With the 1st picture showing "Nothing" but mud and water in front of you, that skinny pedal and a "Locker" may have gotten you through ;).....

Harbor Freight has a "winch in a bag" on sale....that and a good anchor could help with your "wood collecting" chores ;).....or keep that "Jeep AAA" on speed dial...... Friends like that are the best kind, help you out in a "pinch" and hoping you return the favor one day....

Don't know how much a locker would have helped in that mud...but MT's would help a lot more!

Tires wouldn't make much difference. The real difference would be a locker. Open diff sends power to wheel with less traction, so your truck will keep digging itself deeper and deeper...

I hate mud! But, I have yet to get stuck in any with any of my Tacomas... Of course, they were all Off Road TRDs with a rear locker or A-TRAC.

Normal differentials (open differentials) will bias torque to the one tire on each axle that has the LEAST amount of traction (ie. that spins easiest). The purpose of this is to allow steering easily. The problem is, to move forward you need torque applied to a tire WITH traction, not without.

4WD doubles traction by giving you at least one front and one rear tire with torque... and is why in most cases 4WD alone will keep you moving far beyond 2WD.

The problem is if the one front and one rear tire getting torque are also both in a no traction spot, you go nowhere.

The solution is to get torque to the OTHER tire on the axle that has more traction than the spinning tire!

Differential Lockers take away the differential action and lock the left and right tires together so they rotate at the same rate and get equal torque. No longer does power only go to the non traction tire, but to both. This doubles the chance of getting moving per axle. Toyota Off Road TRDs have a rear locking differential.
The negative issues with lockers is they force the truck to drive straight and that makes steering difficult. This is why they warn you to only use the locker for emergencies and not over 5 mph... for safety.

A-TRAC gives the traction ability of lockers to transfer torque to the tire with traction by taking away torque from spinning tires, on the front and rear axles. A-TRAC does not affect steering at all, nor is there any speed limit recommendation.
