Looking to get a an airline points credit card.

Planning a trip to Mexico next year with my wife.

Looking to get a credit card to earn airline points.

    Any recommendations?

Every other trip I've gotten package deals or went with a group (someone else planned).
    Planning this trip myself.

Going to pay my mortgage with the card. Then pay it off when i get paid.

    Thanks!

I have my AMEX Delta Skymiles cars I use for everything. It does help that I travel for work most weeks on Delta though.

actually just landed in Chicago from Atlanta for the week

You get decent points with them ? Thanks

I fly occasionally for work, I never had an airline I "stuck" with though.

Honestly, the most universal travel points will come from Chase Ultimate Rewards. The best one used to be the Chase Sapphire Reserve card, but the Annual Fee just went up to $550 and I don't think it's worth it. This comes with Global Entry Waiver, $300 travel credit, PP Lounges, etc.

I have the Chase Sapphire Preferred card and got the Sign Up Bonus already ($95 annual fee). I have around 74K points which is worth about $950 through their portal and I can book with any airline. I can also transfer points to certain airlines.
The sapphire cards give you a bonus on point redemptions (1.25x for the preferred, 1.5x for reserve).
I plan on signing up for one of the Chase Ink cards in the future for another sign up bonus as well. You can really start getting a lot of points this way.

I will be flying to Hawaii at the beginning of summer for FREE because of this.

Here's a referral link if you want to use it (I get a bonus if you do):
Earn 100,000 bonus points with Chase Sapphire Preferred.
    https://www.referyourchasecard.com/6b/YLY9AQNC44

I can answer more questions about the chase program if you're interested. They do have rules about how many cards and how frequent you can get them.

Is there an annual fee with Delta's card ?

Depends on what card. I have the reserve card which is 500 bucks a year. But I travel enough that I can make use of the lounges and upgrades that comes with that price

Update on the thread. Got the card, bonus points and bought the trip.....

Trip is on hold about 7 months after this thread. My wife got pregnant again.

Planning the trip sometime next year when she's done breast feeding.

I had a trip to hawaii planned in March 2020, but we all know what happened then. Chase gave me a full refund once the airline altered the itinerary.

+1 for Alaska. I've used my companion fare to Mexico many times. Plus, miles accumulate fairly quickly. I live in Seattle, so there are tons of flights out of here to pretty much everywhere. Not sure where you are so Alaska might not be as popular.
