Are your rears already loaded? I'd go that route before I started modifying anything, personally. It really does make a big difference in stability.

 

I save old weedeater tanks for pony tanks. I need to crank this and get it charging while the hood/gas tank is off. The weedeater tank holds just enough to do that. I got to strap it down so it doesn’t vibrate loose.

 

Steering time. Had some play in the wheel and needs a bottom seal.

Actually the jack isn’t holding anything. I have a piece of 5” channel bolted to it holding it.

People relying on jacks is a pet peeve of mine.

 

I have 2 good jacks and both of them leak down, I don't trust them!

 

Mine all leak down, too. Very slowly, but that's almost worse because it would sneak up on you. Same thing with my engine crane; it loses about an inch an hour at the far end.

 

Loaded tires and I usually have a heavy implement on the back for loader work (rotary cutter or disc harrow). Probably still not the recommended amount of ballast but I haven't had any problems.

Two Kubota’s over here. An L2501 and a BX2380.

The L2501 is used for loader work, mowing pastures, gravel work, bringing round bales out to the horses, snow clearing, and anything else I can think of.

The BX2380 has a 60” belly deck and a 50” front mount snow thrower, so it’s our primary lawn machine and driveway clearer.

 

How do you like the lift capacity on that 2501? I've been looking at a TLB version of it as a possible upgrade for my next tractor, but the loader capacity seems like it's on the low side for a full-frame tractor like that. I wouldn't want to spend that sort of $$ on it just to find out the loader's underpowered.

 

The L2501 is actually a compact tractor. You need to go up to the M series for it to be considered a full size.

Loader capacity is great. I lift full buckets of gravel all the time, and with the bale spear it carries giant round bales out the horses with ease.

I will say that sometimes the 2501 is a little underpowered, especially when mowing really high weeds and grass is the pastures. The rotary cutter bogs down a lot and you have to come to a complete stop to let it build up RPM’s.

I was bolting the front end back together yesterday and remembered I made a hitch for another Cub we had. It works great for moving the trailer with the welder/generator when the power goes out.

 

Thanks!! It's going to be nicer in a week or two. I'm trading the L2501 in on a L3901 with a backhoe. More hoe's is more better.

 

Full frame, I said, not full size. The subcompacts like the BX and the B series aren't considered 'full frame' tractors, whereas compacts like the L are commonly referred to (at least around here; it's an older term) as being a 'full frame' design.

Good to know about the loader, though. My TC18 won't lift a full bucket, only about 1/2. But, it's also a SCUT so it's not too surprising. But the 'rated' capacity on the Kubota is only about 300lbs higher so...

I'm not surprised about the rotary cutter bogging, though. That's really common in an HST anyway, even the bigger tractors can run into that if you're running a high-draw implement on the PTO and run into any sort of grade.

 

I'm definitely hoping that trading to a L3901 will make cutting pastures more efficient. I also hope the extra power will make hauling loads uphill a little easier. Our land is far form flat, and the L2501 slows down to nothing when hauling gravel up the hill.

I think the only area where the loader capacity might be a problem, is if you had if filled with big ass rocks, or maybe the bigger size round bales (if you have a need to move hay). A full bucket of gravel is no problem at all. My tires are loaded and I also have wheel weights, which helps with the tipping issue, although I have had the back wheels off the ground a couple times (pucker time).
