Moving to NWA - What gear needed?

Moving from Phoenix to northwest Arkansas (NWA) in June.

I have a stock TRDOR and will eventually do a Bilstein 6112/5160 upgrade. I will be going offroad ~50% of the time, so not exactly a road warrior. Was wondering if y'all can spoon-feed me gear recommendations on:

• Tires (I have new stock tires now), but do I need Mud terrains? Coming from AZ where it rarely rains, I predict lots of mud there?
• Cold weather gear?
• Any unique medical gear aside from typical First-Aid Kit (FAK)?
• Anything else I need to consider?

Welcome to AR. What day will you be arriving? I would just look through the pictures in this group for the type of trails in NWA. The only first aid item outside of a normal kit, would be snake bite kit.

The Express Rally video in this link shows area trails to get an idea. If you get here before June 14th, you might want to attend the event. It would be a good way to meet a number of off-roaders quickly.

Tick, chigger, and mosquito repellant. You'll get eaten alive in the summer and spring
All-weather floor mats
Extra lighting to see all the deer hanging out on the dark back roads
Flashlight in truck
All-terrain tires like the k02 for the widely varied terrain here
Good bright fogs for foggy weather
Fishing poles (The fishing is great here)
Bug cleaner for all the bugs that will hit the front of your truck
Spare windshields for all the rock damage you'll get lol
Water wicking clothing for the summers - you're gonna sweat
Warm clothes for the fairly cold winters
Rain gear and waterproof shoes. It rains a ton here
A banjo to play on your front porch

 

@ozland @Sien @CS_AR Appreciate you guys. Been here a few months and love it. I got all of the above except a banjo, but will have a couple soon when they arrive on the Bilstein 5160's.

What blows my mind is that there's so much water, but almost nowhere to fish from the shore at any lake all across the state. Beaver, Oachita, etc. Nearly every mile of shoreline is privately owned or otherwise blocked. Maybe I should buy a couple of fishing kayaks since there are plenty of ramps?

 

Shore fishing is best done in the creeks. You get more action there. Tons of nice creeks just over the border in MO. Lake fishing is def best done on bass boats so you have mobility and can fish the structure.

 

I spent a few summers water sking on Lake Norfork and Bull Shoals

 

Mountain Home AR was known as Little Chicago when I lived there years ago. They actually had some real Chicago pie style pizza places there.

 

Love the Ozarks man. Tons of outdoor stuff and beautiful.
