This is the strangest thread that I ran across and just started following a couple of months ago.
I couldn't believe how popular it got so quickly.

So @boogie3478, What can they do with their fangs and if they bite a you or a human?

    @boogie3478

A few weeks ago you suggested to me the Lasiodora parahybana (Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird Eater), and until I convince either my friends or the significant other to be open about the idea of me having one at home, I'm just sitting here and self-educating.

I'm over here reading about neurotoxins, hemotoxins, and cytotoxins...reading bite reports, even going over new world and old world spiders.

Last thing I need is a new hobby :frusty:

(but you have to admit, it's fucking cool)

    What's the species?

Back in college had a Mexican Red Knee/Leg. Knew nothing about them other than they were big/beautiful. One morning noticed I had TWO Mexican Red Legs. Kinda messed with my head since I knew no one else had one on campus to slip in with mine (Tarantulas weren't all that popular in the early 80's) . This was pre-internet/Google, required a hasty visit to the library arachnid section.

Molting, huh, who knew. Also learned why she rubbed the hairs off her abdomen.

    (Not Mine)

    .
Yeah, thought that'd be funny, too. And did I ever know the right victim.
A broken nose later..........the funny wasn't what I thought it would be.

No tarantula species venom is dangerous to humans unless there is an allergic reaction. The venom will still be very painful depending on the species, but the size of the fangs means the physical damage would be pretty nasty.

Well I'm still trying to learn the lingo for a lack of better term (categories of spiders?).

I do plan on getting one, especially since the SO and I don't live together but she stays the night often and said she would not come over if I've got a pet spider in the house

In the meantime, I'll keep learning and watching all the cool pics you guys post

I've got too many to name, but I should name this one since it's special.

I think that is a Dolomedes Tenebrosus or Dark Fishing Spider. I saw one last summer for the first time and had to look it up to see what it was

Yep, I looked it up as well and that’s what it was. I have them in abundance in and around my house. Interesting thing is that I don’t have any water near my property.

I don’t either, and I think they are pretty rare here in Oklahoma. I thought it was kind of strange when I found it
