Need tire expert advice, please help!!

IK, I tried searching but came up with too much that really didnt apply to my situation. I need everyones expert advice on tire size.

I have a 2009 DC TRD OF with a short bed. It has factory lift/suspension. I did have the TSB AAL done on the rear. My question is, can I fit some BFG's KM2 285/75/16 on the truck with a factory lift and wheels? I know that it will probably rub, IDC about that, I can trim. I just wanna know if I can install these on factory rims and suspension without doing major body work. Can this be done with only minor trimming? I do plan on getting the Toytec Ultimate in the near future. Thanks for all your help!

No. I have a similar truck: 2010 Sport, and I wanted to run 285/70/17. Everyone advised me that I needed a lift. I have the lift now, and am saving for the tires. By the way, good choice on the Toytec. That's what I have installed now.

I used the tire calculator on http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php
Results: the tires are virtually identical in size (yours vs. mine). If I need a lift, you should too.

ps: I was also advised that I should use spacers as well, which I have now. (Spidertrax)

 

Nope, 285's won't fit on stock suspension. I had to remove the front mud flaps to clear 265 Duratracs.

 

You would need a lot more than minor trimming.

 

Thanks guys! I can get a great deal on them for $900 here so I was wondering. If I buy the tires now, install the lift, then it would be minor trimming with factory 16's? Thanks again

 

Are you sure $900 is such a great deal? Near $1K sounds like regular retail price.

 

Yes. Up here in Alaska, the normal price is 11-1200 for 4. So yeah, 900 is a steal for 4 285/75/16. Im not sure if I want to get them though, or just get 265/70/16. I don't want to buy new tires and it will be about 3-4months before I can get my lift. What do yall recommend I do?

 

go with the 265/75/16's for now and put your lift on. when the time comes to replace, then replace with the 285's

 

Get your lift and stick with your current tires until you can buy the tires you want. Again, you might have to spend an additional $200 for the Spidertrax spacers. Get your truck ready first, and then worry about getting the matching tires.

 

I'm up here in Anchorage too, and tires are definitely more expensive. Where did you find them at that price in town? I'm looking at a new tire set up as well. Thinking about getting 285/70/17 studded Duratrac's for the winter and the same size KM2's in the spring.

I've got King coilovers and a 1.5" Deaver leaf pack in the back and am planning on doing a good bit of trimming myself with the bigger tires.

Would love to find a cheap place to buy tires in town though.

 

on my stock suspension (4 leafs though), I am currently running 285/50r/20's without any rubbing.

 

Sorry for the long delay, that price is on base with a coupon. Coscto sells the KM2's for around 248 though. Usually BFG has rebates every so often.
