I rock a pair of Ft Lewises with a beat up pair of Acadias for nastier inspections.

They're solid. And the trick is if things start separating, just get them refurbished.

While I was "doing" home town recruiting fresh from OSUT, i got to work DZ party for my dad's unit doing a static line jump that got canceled due to ceiling height at some DZ at Carson.

I never went airborne.

 

I liked ripple soles except in the snow. Very slippery on hills. That's my favorite boot, right there. Nice and light, breathed real well.

Same here... always did a minimalist boot. Too damn hot, even in the winter, for insulated boots. Do miss the black though. Once tan were done, they were done. Black if done right, could even fix concertina gouges.

Shit, I can't get out of them fast enough. Airplanes are terrifying.
Helicopters though, much safer. Much better pilots, too.

 

Garmont T8s are the shit, all I used to wear back in the day and I still do whenever I’m not flying. Light, supportive, breathable, solid enough sole that your feet don’t get messed up but flexible enough that you can still feel what you’re doing. I probably have thousands of miles of rucking and deployment patrols in those.

 

Especially if you filled in the cuts and baked it.

God I spent so much on kit during that transition. All new green kit a year before Iraq, broke it in, used it for a year training, then a year in Iraq. Come back... we go ACU. Fuckers

 

I didn't get matching kit until RFI for Iraq in 08. My snivel was all BDU stuff. Bear suit, ninja suit, BDU wet weather gear, poncho liner... Etc.

 

The pilot killed them because he's a moron. Unless the investigation finds some other cause I will say with near 100% certainty that the pilot flew them into the ground because he was trying to fly visually in shit weather rather than land at one of the airports he just flew past or commit to flying instruments and climbing into the clouds.

 

Being out of Lewis, most the Brigades were Tactical Tailor whores. Command always had a thing that as long as the color matched and could carry as much or more then the pouches you were issued, go for it.
