I went with Marlin crawler. Been good for a few years now.

A little light work.

 

Got 15% on windows, installed a Sony ax5000 CarPlay receiver and a baby 8” Kenwood sub behind the back seat. Google maps with CarPlay is a godsend. So easy to use! Haven’t used a CarPlay unit since carplay was first released, it’s so much better these days.

 

Took a nice drive in our latest storms.

 

like the sub install, seen others install them back there, but no one had the factory trailer inverter. Glad to know it fits

 

those pans are not designed for gaskets, thats why you have to use fipg

What's funny is I've done the job on 700R4, 4L60(E) and other autos and have always used a gasket.

The one time I don't ask about it on the forum (due to experience already, too easy of a job), I end up going the wrong way about it

The worst part of it all? Even Toyota lists having a pan gasket for the transmission; it's as if they want you to fail only to come back and do it again and use their FIPG.

I've never seen an Aisin trans from any make have a pan gasket. They know that shit leaks and with permanent fluid fills now they don't want any chance of leaking

 

It's ok; whoever gets this transmission in the future will rest assured the pan was sealed correctly.

I'll just have to do it again for the new one I obtain when I do my swap as well.

 

Corolla needs a new rocker panel. It got peeled like a can. Same fucking thing that hit the avalon last year hit the corolla on the tristate. Good news is it sounds like the states going to pay to fix it.

Actually, I was told by ASE Certified Master Tech neighbor that the actual gasket was better than the FIPG. I had ordered the gasket last year after Brian (Gunny's predecessor) confirmed fitment. Was going to use it for a trans flush and of course had ordered a new filter as well. Never got around to it and figured would just stick with drain and fills. Wasn't the best with trans service and I think I've actually only did a drain and fill twice (?) in 150k. Oh well. When I ordered, I had Brian send me the FIPG as well. Wasn't sure if I wanted to actually go the gasket or the FIPG route. Go figure, it was the orange he sent.

I skipped any advice altogether regarding the transmission pan; posted about it but it was more a rant than anything else.

 

Nope, if I do end up doing the conversion, the A340F will definitely have the pan pulled and I'll use the FIPG. I know tyler used the orange goop when he did his but I also remember Dan mentioning the Black stuff is the best. The actual gasket is going into the Pay it Forward pile.

 

Black is for ENGINE OIL, orange FIPG is what you want for gear oil and transmission fluid.
the black does not hold up to transfluid or gear oil

 

oops. mixed the two up. well good enough, already have a tube of it.
