Hi Everyone - Just found out that my right leaf spring is "cracked" and needs to be replaced (both do). I just had them replaced in August 2016 with the recall. Does this sound normal to any of you?

No it does not take it back to the dealer that you had the recall done with and raise some Kane. They shouldn't fail like that and this is the reason the recall was started anyways.

I stopped at Dealer this morning, and they said they have no "authority" to replace and that I would have to file a claim with Corporate.

In as much as i think i remember a potential cocnern with them failing is that after cracking, they could possibly rotate into teh gas tank under whatever conditions, you might be able to get that one through the channels more quickly, or find a local place and get it replaced and work the reimbursement angle. 4 years on a suspension part, replaced by the dealer, i would think gives you an honest shot at it.

Picked up the truck yesterday and spoke directly with the mechanic.
The leaf isn't cracked, the shims and bushings are shot. There are actually ZERO shims on the leaf spring, while the other side is fine.

Hmmmm that's interesting. Sounds like someone installed them with a bound up bushing causing premature wear.

Is it possible to replace the shims, or does the whole unit (both sides for balance) need to be replaced?

A few mods here and there and counting....
I would look for fresh 3rd gen take offs and call it a day if you're sticking with oem's. They're all over craigslist and fb marketplace for dirt cheap.
