I swear finding good contractors is all but impossible nowadays. My brother in law's house is more like a circus than a home. One clown contractor after the other, charging top dollar and delivering crap work. The original builder poured his back patio with a nice depression in the middle. When it gets wet it's more like a birdbath than anywhere you'd want to sit. So, he hired a guy to fix it by putting some nice 24"x24" porcelain tiles down. When I heard about the project I thought, "cool, make it like a shower with a sloping mud base and it will be great." I don't know what the contractor clown did, but now the BIL has a nicely tiled birdbath. (so glad I can do most of my own work.)

Basement Reno starting finally. Removing all of the paneling to do drywall and putting vinyl plank flooring down. The room on the other side of the torn out wall is a half bath/laundry room we are completely gutting. Got the sink and toilet out and capped off the pipes because the sink is getting relocated to the other side beside a stackable washer and dryer.

 

For this wall that I've opened up, that is between the basement and the laundry/half bath. What would you all recommend using for insulation? I'd like it to be as sound proof as I can just to help with privacy and noises of the washing machine/dryer...but I don't want to spend an arm and a leg on insulation and sound is still going to come out of the door to the space. I've never done insulation or drywall so this is all a learning experience for me.

The ceiling is 8ft tall.
The sagging, I think you are meaning the white section above the torn out wall, is a portion of drywall that was behind the paneling so whoever installed it did not care if it was straight.
It is not black mold it is some sort of dirt/water concoction from behind the paneling where some water dripped from the bathroom above when we remodeled it. It's like "paneling residue" if that makes sense haha.
Yes I plan to take that white section out as well and re-drywall it.

I like the suggestion of sideways drywall, that sounds like a better plan because as you noticed I won't get as many spots to screw in if I run it vertical.

 

yeah at that section specifically that's a good idea, thank you. The rest of the room will have crown molding, but this section sort of under that "overhang" will not have molding at the top.

 

What I generally see on commercial projects for sound mitigation is a sound attenuation insulation with doubled up gyp board on each side.

Got to use my new Festool Domino 700 for the first time on this decking install

Decking is all down and picture frame notched for the 2"x2" stainless cable rail posts that we will install next week

 

What glue did you use?

I have the 500, wishing I had bought the 700. Great tool.

 

I was planning on Titebond Polyurethane but I couldn't get it locally when I needed it so I used Gorilla Glue

 

Finally mounted the TV to the wall, and just ordered the cable cover from Amazon. Also replaced the HDMI cable from the cable box to the TV, huge improvement in color.

 

I had a chuckle thinking about this post today . I was laying out some joinery for some frames I'm building at home and wished I had the 500 to use haha

Due to the size of the 8mm dominos and the fact that the 700 cuts a minimum of a 15mm depth , I ended up with zero room for error with the domino lay out for the narrower part of the rail .





I had cut the mortises on the wider side first with the machine set to the tight mortise setting and planned to cut the second mortise on the loose setting

Literally could only fit in one spot to not blow through the side or have the bit blow out through the bottom




Enter the Incra lay out rule , no parallax error



Whats the depth range on the 500?

 

The depth stops are, 12 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 28 mm.

My friend that has the 700 uses one of these to simulate the 500, and a spacer(makes his own) to limit the depth.
