    I was looking at them today. TRDParts4U had them for $222 plus shipping.

    I ended up ordering one from Toyota of Richardson for $240 shipped. I don't know what TRDParts4U would have cost shipped, because I was also buying an exhaust, and the shipping charges from TRDParts4U were a deal breaker.

    Silly question: I cannot think of a single thing I own that would require the roof rack, but I like the way it looks. Does it have any drag when installed? In other words, any additional loss on mileage?

    I am going to get a rack at some point and buy/build a hitch mount extender for hauling longer items like 12'-16' boards, etc, without having to hang out over the bed.

    I went on a trip not long ago, and the bed was full of gear, and I couldn't see out the rearview. I was thinking it would be nice to have a roof rack for additional storage. Supposedly when they are stowed, there isn't much noise.

    The instuctions that came with mine say 100lbs. I heard the 75lbs was a misprint.

    Its nice to have my canoe on top of the truck. I hate having it stick 6 feet out past the bed. That way I can use the bed for all my camping, fishing and boating gear.

    The OEM rack is weak IMO. When I load a wide canoe on the deployed OEM cross bars and crank it tight enough so that the canoe will not move, it will bend badly at the joints. I had to buy Thule 450 railing feet and crossbars to rap around the OEM rack in the stowed position. This puts all of the tie down pressure on the Thule’s strong cross bars. Problem solved but I kinda sucks to have to add a rack to a rack. I would not buy it again.

    As stupid as it sounds, I bought mostly for looks :). I'm sure I will use it for storage at some point though. It would hold a bike or my snow board very nicely im sure. Its nice to have an actual Toyota option on my truck too. Also, when off-roading some people like to be in the bed and its nice to have a cross bar to hold on too ;)

    As for wind noise, its only slightly noticeable when the cross bars are stored. Very minimal. No one else would notice. When cross bars are out, it very noticeable. I think its due to the fact that the bars are hollow steel tubes that reverberate the wind noise.

    So, tell me, the cross bars are just that, bars. How do you store a canoe or bike? Sounds like you still need something in addition that hooks into the cross bars?

    Yeah bars that you lay stuff on instead of resting on the roof...

    I put my canoe on them and then tie it down... I don't know how else to explain it, lol

    I guess for a bike, snowboard, etc you'll need an attachement

    UrbanLegend - In regards to the OEM Rack. When the crossbars are in the stowed position, does it hold the Thule rack steady? How tightly held are the crossbars in the stowed postion?

    I am looking to buy the OEM rack but already have a set of Thule racks over my snugtop. The problem is that I have a 4ft bed and my canoe is 17ft. So I want to buy the OEM rack and mount one of the Thule bars on the OEM rack in the stowed position. Thoughts?
