"kids" should learn to drive in some hideous 80's station wagon with a manual tranny. no foo foo frilly conveniences and no cell phones allowed...

....actually, as I'm typing this I'm realizing that the "I learned to drive in a manual tranny truck with no bluetooth, no rear review camera, no collision avoidance, no airbags..." is maybe my generation's version of the "I had to walk to school uphill, both ways in the snow..." o_O

I agree, that would make folks more humble too. It's amazing how fast tech and the times are changing. Only 18% of Americans can drive a stick shift. My sister drives one to this day.

Kids don't even have to walk these days, they have electric hoverboards.

I learned in a 94 Toy truck with a manual....might be a little rusty if I had to jump into a manual today but it would come back to me quick enough.
Also, when I was in drivers' ed we had a pool of a dozen cars. one was a manual. we drew keys out of a hat once a week and that was our car. guess what my group drew every freakin week? yep.... guess who got to drive for 2.5 out of 3 hours each time my group was up? yep. instructor needed a break and he always had me drive so he could relax a bit.

I learned to drive in an early 2000's silver station wagon with a manual:anonymous:. It was not hideous though, it just got called "grandpa car"

That looks like a broken leg or a really painful bruise. Surprised at how far the door went in.
