rear end clunks would make me check bolts first...I had the main eye bolt on my pass leaf springs come loose on the trail once and it clunked like a mother'effer. Ubolts too. Then inspect bushings

 

did that - checked everything. front hangar, shock mount, ubolts, shackles - everything is tight @ spec and nothing appears out of place. no cracked leafs

 

The cheapo SD truck springs version of that, yes. I did the big socket+c clamp trick to press them in.

 

Having someone jump up and down in the bed while you lay under there helps a ton as well.

I had a carrier bearing fail on me (non oem one off Amazon, lesson learned) and it made a hideous squealing and whirling sound, not a clunk. Good thing I was only an 8hr highway drive away from home.

 

Probably the bushing then. I replaced one of my poly bushings that was making a ton of popping noise last week with a new poly bushing and a ton of silicone grease...and it's doing the same thing again. Happens when I turn and the weight goes to that side or if I flex out the rear on that side. I'm just going to live with it until I get Alcans in the near future and start from scratch.

Ever since I put in these Expos I've had a terrible rear thrust angle too, I think the ones I got sold from a TW member on here were bent or had a bent pin.

 

That was how I confirmed it was my bushing making the noise, sort of. I laid under the truck and pushed up on my sliders (like I was bench pressing them), makes the truck rock side to side and the popping came right from the bushing above my face.

Got a nice face full of dirt/grease chunks too...highly recommend wearing eye protection if you do this

 

Mine would pop whenever I backed out of the driveway while turning. Freaking loud too. I only ever installed one poly bushing cause it was too much of a pita for me to install the rest. So I knew immediately what the issue was. So I pressed the original bushing back in and have had no issues. I have cheapo OEM spec springs from SD springs but its the same process to replace the bushing.

 

Yea, crow bars or long ass screwdrivers are nice for that as well.

 

It's crazy the variety of pop/clunk/squeak issues a damn poly bushing can make.

 

@Speedytech7 have you seen the excursion 17+ taillight conversions? this one has the 15-16 front end and 17+ rear body work for the tail lights

would love a modern looking truck with the 7.3l in it

a cheapy balljoint press can also do the trick

 

I found the root of the problem to be that the super lube dried up. Stuff looked like that ptfe pipe tape, all stringy and white.

So I grabbed a couple lighted cig lighters from some 4Runners at the junkyard today. Both bulbs are out. And the only way to replace them is to order the entire bulb/plug combo from the dealer. $9.99 bulb for a part I got for $2 at the junkyard.

 

You should grab me some blinker pigtails+sockets sone time

 

Ill keep that in mind. Think its the same as the 4Runners? I rarely see tacos in junkyards.

 

I would imagine, just snip the wire like 5 or so inches away from the housing and twist it all out.
