I learned today through unintentional testing that the hardie plank garage frame is much stronger than the side mirror on the 2000th time I backed into the garage. I need a new glass and interior plastic piece (top of pictured items); the painted cap, motor, wiring, and door mount are in fine shape. I ordered an $83 clone piece from partsgeek, is this my best bet? I didn’t see how to order just the black structural plastic piece as an OEM part, and I didn’t want to buy an entire OEM assembly. Thoughts or ideas?

It might be cheaper to get a complete used mirror. Check car-part.com. Make sure it has the same options (heated vs. Non heated...lane departure vs. Non).

Thanks for the reply. A quick search there shows they want at or more than OEM prices for the used part.

That link I posted above has had good reviews as a non-OEM replacement. I intend to take the parts I need from it if I can, but I have to use the entire unit so be it. I’ll post results, but I expect it to take a week or so for the part to arrive. I imagine I will hide my shame in the garage until the fix is done. ;-)

That part (new side mirror) came in last week. It worked great. I had to swap it out instead of just use the 2 piece I needed, as the internals were not identical, but the swap was quite easy and externally you cannot tell the difference. Even had my 8 year old do it while I coached and provided a little muscle (very little, mind). Since my blue top cap wasn't damaged, I was able to clip it right on and you would never know the difference. Great option for a DIY cheap fix.

Just swapped out my mirror. Took all of 5 minutes. Although I probably should’ve spent 10. I dropped the little clips that hold the top panel on down the door. :homer:
