    Hey everyone,

Im brand new into a 2020 TRD OR M/T with 370 miles. I noticed there’s a noticeable clunk when releasing the clutch while the truck is running.

It may just be the sound of the clutch engaging with the flywheel? I know these transmissions make a decent amount of noise rowing through gears but I’ve never heard a clunk from just releasing the clutch.

Do you mean just in neutral and releasing the clutch or when shifting gears? I have no clunk sounds with mine.

It's when the truck is in neutral. Sounds like a metal on metal clunk.

Yuck. I'd have concerns about that. Take it back to the dealer and let them listen to it. Mine doesn't make any sounds just from letting the clutch out in neutral.

Mine makes all kinds of weird noises since day 1. 98700 miles and no issues

I don't have a "clunk" but there is a noticeable metallic rattle in neutral with clutch out that goes away when you press it.

I've never crawled under the truck see what the linkage looks like.

That just sounds like your pedal working. It's tough to hear.

Say you're sitting in a drive thru or next to a brick wall or in a garage... is it louder?

Hard to tell the source of the noise from the vid. Does it sound like its coming from under the truck (bell of transmission) or by the pedals? The video makes it sound like it could just be noise from the clutch pedal. I'll say this though. My clutch pedal definitely isn't silent and I can hear the clutch engaging if I do what you did in the video. It's faint though and I definitely wouldn't describe it as a clunk or metal on metal.

It's definitely a noise coming from the bell housing. It sucks that the truck is so damn loud because it only happens while running.

Yea,, that just sounds like the clutch pedal to me. Not the sounds you originally described. I probably wouldn't worry about that sound.

Go get it looked at but don't be surprised if they tell you it's normal!

Hm. How fast are you letting the clutch out? Does it do it if you release it slowly? I imagine if you dump it quick enough the simple impact of the clutch into the flywheel could be a bit noisy.

It's louder and echoes a bit when I let the clutch out fast. But still makes the noise when I release the clutch as if I'm starting slow in first.

I'm probably just paranoid as it's a brand new truck but still lol.

    Canada Eh!
@Matt4x4OR I suspect the noise might be caused by the rear drive shaft taking up the little bit of slack in the rear diff.

Even in neutral a very small amount of torque is transferred through the transmission due to the friction in the bearings. Being new, everything is still pretty tight.

That sounds very plausible. It would explain why it only makes the noise while the truck is running and the flywheel spins.
