I know most of the folks on here are not guilty of it so this is directed at any who would choose to do such ignorant and destructive things...

The family went and drove the Mogollan Rim Road and took a few turns to camping areas and hiking paths. I was surprised, ashamed, and PISSED that there was a lot of trash laying around. What makes a person (other than a shit bag) think it is ok to toss something out of your vehicle? Really..when is that ever cool to do? There was shit floating in the lakes, garbage on the trail, garbage on the road....

We picked up some junk along the trails and road where we would stop.

This is such a beautiful state and I am beyond comprehension why people choose to FUCK it up with their littering. Some of these trails and roads will be at risk of closure if this shit continues.

From this point forward, I will go out prepared to deal with the garbage I find along the way...including the human kind.

If you are out an about and you notice your favorite trail is starting to show the signs of the shit bags of this world, plan another trip out to clean it up. Get some buddies together and hit part of it each week. It could make a big difference.

I found that an old military surplus duffel bag would be go picking up the random trash along the way. For the most part, they are water proof and can carry a lot of shit.

    Just a thought.

Yea it's sad. A lot of it is from the illegals too (though dunno about rim country). But in southern AZ desert it's all over the place.

Your post got me thinking. Why don't we (Tacoma World) abopt a highway? Most stretches are only done 3 or 4 times a year. We could plan it like a meet up, take 30 trucks down the highway and volunteer a couple hours cleaning up OUR roads. I'll post a new thread and get the ball rolling if anyone is interested.

Yes, and the broken glass and left bottles really piss me off. I guess people dont care or realize that its illegal to have glass in our National Forests.
And.... IF Have to pick up another Bud Lite Beer Can right off the side of the road ever 100 yards I'll SCREAM:mad:

Are you talking about the old rim road FR300 ?

I might go in on a clean up but i gotta get through this cancer first.

That road could use some work...but in general, the state tolerates way too much trash laying around.

Hope all works out well for you.

I couldnt agree more. I cant stand the pieces of shit who have no respect for the outdoors. They deserve to get their asses beat. I would definitely be down for helping out if we got a meet together for a clean up. I have a cabin right at the base of the rim and it is so gorgeous up there. Its a damn shame to see all these disrespectful fucks ruining it. Like you said, if this shit keeps up our roads will be in danger of closing down.

Looks like a nice area! Your rig looks good. I checked out your pics too.
Our family has a cabin in Prescott,I like the Payson area better(more trees)
    Someday....................

By the way if you remember the fire that destroyed Zane Grey Cabin and surrounding forest back in the 80's? (before your time?)The area is coming back nicely.
I figured since you have a cabin up there you must have driven by it by now.

Thanks Mike. I love going up there whenever I can. I have been through that area, it is growing back really nice. I love how thick it is in there with all the trees and vegetation.

I'd be all for this! Been here my whole life as well, both in Southern AZ and now Northern AZ. It's just pathetic the amount of trash I see when I'm out and about in the backcountry.

Brian your tone rings LOUD AND CLEAR! x 100000000- I am a life-long AZ native and have hiked hundreds of miles of trail in Arizona and always bring an extra garbage bag along to help pick up 'trash'.

I am also an Arizona Trail Steward www.aztrail.org and try to educate people on the importance of keeping trails clear of the a multitude of things left behind.

Let me know if you organize an Adopt a Highway and you have my word, that I would do my part to maintain it.

    Thanks for bringing this up!

Hey Doug! My father was a segment steward for a number of years, but has recently been forced to step down due to some health issues. What segment do you maintain? He was way down south in the Canelo hills region. You should see the trash down there... nothing short of mind-blowing!

I'm a steward of 30c - Mormon Lake up , south of Flagstaff.

Yes, I've hiked section 1 from the US/MEX border to Parker Canyon Lake. Unbelievable the amount of garbage on that section. I know the Canello Hills is really, really bad as well. They travel that route as well to enter our country illegally.

Beautiful country southern arizona. I am going to do either the Superstition Wilderness or the Canelo hills this spring. After the border patrol officer was gunned down, I may stick to the Supers.

Thanks again for your dads service. The Az Trail is truely a beautiful place!
