Infant car seat, will this fit?

Hi one and all! Happy Saturday.

Ok, so the time has come where I'm shopping car seats for a little one that's almost done cooking. It's our first and, basically between the two of us we collectively know about as much about babies as where the front and bottom ends are, otherwise no knowledge of kids or what we're doing so it's a "learn-as-we-go" situation like most new parents. For car seats we've been searching models and are looking at buying this model and wonder if any of you wonderful folks have used this specific seat in your trucks.

Now before it's mentioned, I have searched through some of the preexisting threads and there was just a lot of info and also what seemed like later stage seats that was a bit confusing, I just need the infant type seat for now.

Link below, many thanks in advance!!!

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07B7QBFM6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_CNTpEbR9N511W

Also if you have any specific infant seats that work well I'm open to suggestions! Ty!

Why not just put him in the bed? Get one of those rubber bed mats and some bungee cords so he won't slide around.

It will fit but those seats are a little longer so if you plan to put them behind the passenger or driver seat, they will have to move the seat up a few notches. I put the rear facing in the middle and it doesn't require moving the seats.

We use the Britex B-Safe 35.

However, no reverse car seat will fit well in the Tacoma. I’ve tried removing the bottom of the seat the seat back and every configuration.

In the end we put the car seat in the middle which allows the front seats to stay in place. If you put him behind either the passenger or driver you will have to move the seat almost all the way forward.

My boy is due in july too! have you decided on a car seat yet? Part of me wishes I went full size but both my wife and I are shorties so we might be able to make it work. Me 5'7, wife 5'3.

She wants a seat that travels, hence the stroller package. @Tacowin1013 do you have this seat or one like it? Would you mind sharing the make/model? There are waaaaay too many choices/options out there for my simple mind

So no chance at all on getting it behind the seat then, dang. I was hoping there was a "compact" model out there somewhere. It will work for kid #1, but what happens when there's another hitchhiker? Lol

Oh snap reread your post. I thought you were referring to an actual hitchhiker.. Not a hitchhiking baby

Honestly friend, I wish I had something solid to give you but my wife has been doing more research on this than me right now. Ive been doing the manual labor around the house getting things ready.

All I know is that were looking for the kind that we can snap out of a seat placeholder and into a stroller so we dont need to keep mounting the seat to the truck every time. Take them out of the stroller via detachable seat then snap them back into the truck.

If I find out anything else Ill be sure to PM you. And if its not already onbvious, rear facing is the safest way to go.

    Congrats on the kiddo!

Awesome! Thanks! Im assuming based on @JoeCOVA reply that you probably have it in the middle and it won't fit on either side decently right?

You can but it’s just not comfortable for any one up front. Though it might not be terrible if you are shorter. I think all reverse seats will have some trouble. Once they are old enough to face front (like 2 years) you get some space back.

We went with the Britex because it had the highest safety rating.

Thanks! That's where we're at as well, a seat that's transferrable. The one I linked above is and is also rear facing.

Likewise and I'll keep you posted what we decide to go with as well!

Gotta get some seat covers now too, but that's a tread for another day ^^

Alright here we go...this is gonna be a lengthy read but i'll give you my $0.02 based on my wife and I spending quite a bit of time researching 3 years ago.

First of all, I would recommend you and your wife spend some time at a Buy Buy Baby or similar store and just carry around, test, fold up the stroller, etc and see which you like best. I'd say most popular brands are Britax and Chicco based on affordability and user preference. Obviously you can get into the Uppababy and all those designer brands for double, triple the cost but really that's up to you guys.
You are gonna be hard pressed to find a "compact" baby carrier and base combo. In general for safety and functionality, they have to be that size. So choose based on your preference and not "size of the system"
-- Our background, we are both healthcare professionals and when shopping for a system, safety was our #1 priority. With that said, all car seats do safety and crash testing but when we were in the market, Chicco was one of the only manufacturers that did "side impact" crash testing and it tested very well. So we tried it out, found a great deal/sale on a system and bought it and never looked back
--One other word of caution--be careful if you get a hand me down or garage sale seat/base because all car seats these days have "expiration dates" usually around 7-10 years from manufacturer date. Also you never know if those seats have been in a car accident themselves (which render them useless)

We went with this one: https://www.amazon.com/Chicco-Bravo...r_1_12?keywords=chicco&qid=1581180410&sr=8-12

Secondly comes the weight and how you guys plan to carry the seat. When we chose the middle seat position, it basically meant my wife doesn't put the baby in the truck because its too hard on her back and shoulders--she's about 5'6" 100lbs so carrying a 20-30 lb seat and baby and lifting with shoulders is harder for some women. So keep that in mind when you decide to put the rear-facing seat in the middle.
--- Middle seat placement is preferred for us because it allowed us to keep both front and rear passenger seats fully moved back without issue. Also, its found to be much safer if baby is in the middle--obviously from side impact collisions. If you decide you need to keep it behind the driver or passenger seat, you'll have to compromise whichever seat that is and accept you won't be able to keep it all the way back (if your wife is 5'3" you might be ok, but have to consider other passengers too) When our 2nd child comes, the plan is to have the rear facing baby seat in the middle still, and our 2 yo will be moved to the passenger side that way it doesn't affect the front seat placement because the fwd facing seats take up much less leg room

Third, I would suggest you use a rear facing system and base the first 2 years or so because with those 4 in 1 seats, they stay in the truck, so basically you just put your child in it (and they can start out rear facing in it, and turn fwd facing--which is where our 2yo is now and she loves it because she can see out the truck, but with the seat and base combo, its ideal because when your little one is sleeping you'll be able to just snap them out and into the house, stroller, shopping cart, etc. You can also buy multiple bases for each car and just use the one car seat that you have. (We purchased 5 bases, one for each of our cars and each grandmother) Otherwise with the 4 in 1 systems that stay in the car, you gotta either buy one for each car or plan to unhook and move each time, which is a complete PITA. So don't try to compromise space for convenience here.

When the time comes: here is what we went with for rear/fwd facing 4 in 1 (basically they use this one up until they no longer need a seat as it can keep converting--but we bought 5 of them, lol so you can imagine its much more $$ to go this route.)
    https://www.amazon.com/Graco-4Ever-...eywords=4+in+1+car+seat&qid=1581182107&sr=8-8

I'm sure I missed a shit ton of info here but please PM or reply with any questions, again all this info and research was done 3 years ago and we're planning to use the same seats and bases for our upcoming child but things could have changed a little in the past few years so take my info for what it is....hope this helps

FYI: I keep editing this post because I keep thinking of stuff lol---but be vigilant for Target or even Graco/ Britax websites to clearance out last years models for a significant savings. They are clearanced because they change out the model colors and upgrade them, not because of any functionality or safety reasons. So for example when I purchased the 4 in 1 seats, Graco was getting rid of last years color so I purchased it for $130 dollars each seat instead of $299

We did the genetic testing at 12weeks for both babies and found out. I have friends that can go without knowing, but screw that, I don't like surprises. The last time my wife threw me a surprise 30th bday party at our house I punched my best friend in the stomach cause he jumped out at me. lol
