I have not done any engine work since I have owned it (almost 17 years) with the exception of recently replacing a cam seal while I had my timing belt and water pump replaced last month.

No transmission work either - I replaced the transmission fluid a couple years ago with no gear slippage whatsoever- I heard reading on this forum that slippage was a possibility when changing the fluid.

interesting note, the shop showed me the water pump they replaced - it was fully functional, and looked still new to me- it had almost 120,000 miles on it if I recall - it was an aisan part, same as what I replaced it with

I've got 248k on mine and it still runs pretty good! 25k have been my miles. Last owner (original) was a dip and beat the piss out if it as a drywall guy. Now I beat the piss out of it as an off-road guy.

    A few tweaks
283k and climbing. It sees a fair amount of abuse and handles it pretty well!

I've done quite a bit of maintenance - often upgrades, but nothing major was actually required so far in my 4 years of ownership.

it definitely has its advantages when wheeling with the big 3rd gens and the largesse they sport up front
i was looking right down on top of them rocks, square in the eye, in the Wisconsin forest while they might've been playing guessing games on whether they passed by the stones or yet to hit

I concur. The 1995.5-1997 face is the best Tacoma face. Anyhoo, my favorite earthly possession just turned 116,000 miles.

Looks like you got buried in that record breaking snow the other day.
Makes me so happy, because I feel the same, when people's most favorite things aren't the most ridiculous expensive dumb things. I'm glad your fave thing is well made and reliable and it should definitely return as much love to you, as you've shown it:cool::D
