Got the shoe rack/shelf installed in the "master" closet... ok, this was a few days ago, but I just found this forum! I've since added the toe kicks and baseboards... and drawers to the right. Picked up some wood today to make the drawer fronts...

Rock wool insulation and sheets of mass loaded vinyl will kill a lot of sound.

As mentioned, two layers of sheet rock are relatively cheap and easy (although I've never gone that far). Obviously, you want to use the 5/8" stuff either way.

Any insulation is better than none. I've used standard and the sound stuff, I doubt I can tell a difference.

Another cheap thing I do is run a continuous bead of caulk around the stud cavity before I hang the drywall. Ideally there are no air gaps for sound to easily travel through. Also, might stop some vibration.

Got the first piece hung inside the laundry/bath. Needed it hung so that I could put the valve back on for the toilet so I could turn the water back on. The other valve needed replaced.

Please all critiques welcome. Is there a pattern or method to doing the screws? My dad told me I should have paid attention for a beveled edge on the drywall but this stuff is just flat on both sides as far as I can tell. Anything else I should’ve known or done?

    FABBCB70-A0FD-4B02-A73D-F5F2C08E3B97.jpg

also ignore the doo doo looking stuff on the other wall lol. That’s like glue and leftover cardboard type backing from the plastic board stuff that was hung on the walls. It’s a pain in the ass to scrape off that block wall...

Silly question: Anyone have suggestions for normal 2 post toilet paper holders that can handle the costco rolls? these builder grade ones they installed are too narrow to where it rips each individual square as we pull on it. wife doesn't like the single post idea and everything at HD/Lowe's was damn near $30. thoughts? ideally we want the nickel coloring to match the rest of the fixtures.

You're not starting a lawn mower! JK not sure what the solution is. Are the Costco rolls that much bigger?

would think not but it rubs on the wall and the posts of the garbage they installed. Everything about this place was done cheap and it’s pissing me off.

Any of that bathroom fixture crap is so overpriced it's ridiculous, I feel your pain having just gutted two bathrooms.

The beveled edge runs along the long side. You're hanging horizontally. Where the "CP blah blah" text is the bevel. It will make more sense when you tape the seams and then mud. Ideally, you want to tape where two bevels meet.

There is a screw pattern. It can vary product to product and by building code... Out here it's 12" for the ceiling... and I forget the walls... 15"? 18"?

I figured out the beveled edge once I grabbed the second piece. It’s on both long sides. You can sort of see it in that last pic I posted.

Whoever built the home is an idiot. That’s where the toilet for the hall bathroom upstairs drains. So it comes down then turns to the drain in the wall. So if you see the toilet I have removed now, imagine a toilet directly above it lol

Maybe but idk. The house was built in 1962 and only one family ever lived here. Not a single thing in the house was updated or renovated when I bought it so I have a hard time seeing this being something that was. Split level home, lowest level is on a slab, which is the level I’m working on now. And the toilet drains are cast iron original. No way they moved them lol

Probably poor planning from the start.
