You can do that here in Tucson. Mount Lemmon here tops out at like 9600ft. Nice and cool in the summers and it snows in the winter. Hour to and hour and a half drive to get to the top from my place and I'm on the outter edge of NW Tucson.

 

The rocks do make it a pain in the ass picking up dog shit tho.

 

I feel like that would be rather uncomfortable to walk on barefooted.

Yep, I can't. I have to be close to the coast. My father was born in Lincoln, NE. No way I could do that flat, featureless horizon. I need mountains, ocean beaches, moderate climate - happy where I am.

 

I like the flatness. I can travel to other things. But flatness means I have more $ to do that
