Hello out there in toyota land. Got a question on the rear Diff lock. I have read through all the threads on how to engage. I cant seem to get it to lock in. It has in the past so I know it worked at one time. Is there some way of finding out if there is somthing causing it not to work, somthing broken or bad maybe? the ABS light comes on, as it usually does and the locker light blinks. But it will not engage. I have tried turning the wheels all directions. forward/reverse. slow All around the yard in all drirections. It just wont go in. Any thoughts would be helpfull.

Could be a couple things, when was the last time it worked properly? From what I read it sounds like its been awhile, I'm a believer in energizing, engaging, the locking diff. (& 4x mode) Couple times a year even if you aren't going to use it. A few here have had this same complaint, & it was from non use, sometimes it took forever to get shit working like it should again I think your climate also plays a role in it. (salted roads, corrosion of connections, etc; )

its probably been 2 years since I used it. I tried last year and it would not engage. Figures I was going up a major rocky hill in the middle of no where. Would not kick in there either.

Try changing the differential oil. Maybe you can find some type of oil stabalizer too. Lucas is pretty good stuff. It might help!

yes. I have done all the correct things that i know of. I had it locking in the past. its just not locking in recent trys. I did not know if they was a way to check the mechanical workings for failure. I have not seen much in the way of that here.

if you haven't used it in a long time, like you said two years, theres a chance the gears aren't lubricated since you havent used them in a long time.

Turn your truck on, step out and press the button, you should be able to hear it engauging/disengaging quite easily

i agree ^^ it could be bad wiring and not letting you engage because it thinks your not in 4lo, id do the grey wire mod to bypass that and then go from there.
