(toytec)Rear shocks, any suggestions??

hey tw,

have a toytec lift in a box waiting to be put on(spacer w/ aal). now the instructions recommend longer rear shocks....any suggestions as to which one i should get? procomp?? auto parts store special??

i currently have kyb on all four corners.... previous owner put them on... not sure if that matters

 

There are some members that don't care for Pro Comp too much. I have had a pair of Pro-Comps on the back of my truck for a year with no problems. I bought them because they were cheap.

 

procomps like toy4life will work, as will some ome's and also some bilstein 5125's....a little pricey, but a good shock nonetheless.

 

If you have the money you should try to go for the proven best...bilstein.

 

My stock ones were overextended at times, I wanted to replace them with Bilsteins too, but they don't make them for 2" lift. I ended up getting the Rancho RS900XL adjustables.

 

wait so will my stock truck with an aal in the rear...will the bilsteins work or not?? still not sure what to do....have money but unsure if i wanna blow it on really nice shocks for the rear.....

The stock shocks will work, but you only have about an inch of down travel left after you add the the AAL. Alot of people go for the 5100 series billy's or the OME's. You can find them both on toytec's website.

so if i keep the stock shocks, which i wont, they will prevent the suspension from flexing into the bed or away from it?

With a 2" AAL in the rear and stock Bilstein shocks, mine overextended at times. An easy test is to lift the truck up by the frame...the shocks will extend to their limit, but the rear springs will still be pushing the rearend down (be under pressure). Pop a shock off and see what happens...the rear end will come down another 2+". So, during articulation the same thing is happening, shock is limiting travel (down). There's a couple 0-2" shocks out there, I choose the Ranchos. The part number is RS999144, with a 14.25" compressed length and 21.875" extended length. The stock Bilsteins (P/N F4-B46-2285 & F4-B46-2286) have travel of 13.6" compressed and 19.8" extended.
