    Bear Update....

Blood work came back from the Lab. Everything was normal. So, it seems that we are back to square one. What caused Bear to become immobile for a week? He is still weak in the right rear leg. Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome is not ruled out. Perhaps just a less sever case. I dunno. Lyme disease didn’t show up in blood work but tomorrow we are going to try doxycycline anyway, just as a precaution. Bear is progressing. Now climbing stairs. Descending stairs is a little more difficult on the hardwood section, even with the non-skid strips. But overall, improvement has happened. Hard to believe that three weeks ago he couldn't walk more that two steps without falling down. Took Bear to the park yesterday. It was supposed to be for only a couple minutes as I didn’t want to push him too soon. I let him make the call. I watched him closely to ensure he didn’t push it. Hoping for more improvement. He has become more vocal which eases my stress and puts a smile on my face. You can see that by the third video, at the end of the walk, he's getting tired, and crab walking more. The walk for him was only about 200 yards, but that is a huge improvement since this all began back on 16 January. Not bad for a dog that will 15 on the 18th, and arthritis in his front legs, elbows.

Good to see him up and around!

It looks like he’s got a little neuro thing going on the way that he walks. But he’s walking and his reaction to the ball is good too.

Hope he continues to improve and that you’re able to figure out what’s going on.

Neuro has definitely been discussed. Geriatric Vestibular Syndrome also mimics a stroke, as well as vertigo. It's weird. He leans to the right when standing still. His right rear leg being weak causes him to crab walk to the right. The Vet is still not certain exactly what caused his issue.

The boys are best friends in less than a week. Oh and the little one terrorized my parents 14 year old beagle for like 10 seconds.

They do fine here with A/C! I do feel they would be happier in a colder climate though. I've been out camping and ran my truck for several hours just to run the a/c so my pup could enjoy the cooler temp when it was 90+ out. Door open so he could get to his water and A/C on full blast blowing right in his face.

You not wrong though. It is kinda rough, I was on a trip last fall and my buddy I was with wanted to do an easy 1 mile each way hike and I had to say no because my pups were with me and it was around 95 with the sun out. Couldnt/wouldnt risk them over heating.

We went through something similar with one of ours, and it turned out to be a spinal injury. She was having swelling at certain vertebrae, and it was causing her no end of pain and misery. She couldn't walk and was very weak. We ended up having to go the surgical route with her because of the nature of it.

If he has the other issues like you mentioned and it's in his age more than anything else. I hope he keeps improving!
