First off, happy belated birthday brother! You end up getting your Tropicalia??? I can toss a freshie in your next box if you didn’t... Creature Comforts is 35 min from the house! Secondly, had a trade buddy also at the Carnival and I was drooling at all the stuff he was posting on IG! Seems like one helluva festival!

    Photo dump time...

Hit up Variant Brewing’s Overslept and variant release last weekend. Had a pour of the whiskey BA variant and the hazelnut cinnamon BA variant while I was there... Both were quite tasty!

    155285FC-1379-41F7-A7FA-9C22F406C280.jpg

Also picked up a bottle of their Midmorning breakfast stout which was also very good!

This past Friday I was on the hunt for Pontoon’s Rainbow Smiggles. A Berliner brewed with Trix cereal and Skittles. Apparently it got some national recognition and was being pretty hyped. Grabbed the last 4 pk from a bottle shop in Athens and picked up a mixed 6’er for the upcoming winter weather.

Got the Smiggles for my GF and she said it was just ok, not her favorite from Pontoon and def didn’t live up to the hype.
    My 6 pk -
Wild Leap Caramel Cake stout - Really enjoyed this one. Some of their stouts are overly and and artificially sweet, but I thought they did a great job on this one.

Oskar Blues Death By King Cake - Wasn’t too impressed with this one. I didn’t get any of the flavors listed on the can. Tasted like a slightly sweet plain old regular ale.

2nd Shift Black Noise stout - Nice non-adjunct roasty stout. Good consistency and nice flavor. Enjoyed it thoroughly!

New Realm Pastry Horse Porter - This was pretty good. Coconut and cacao on the can, but i didn’t get any coconut.

Pontoon Honorary Girl Scout - Samoa nut cookie. Flavor was ok after I got over the initial taste... Kinda like off gassed plastic or something.

Last was Founders Espresso KBS - Just looking for something to fill out the 6er and already knew I liked this! So much coffee goodness!

Finished off the weekend with some Hardy’s Historical barleywine and Evil Twin Imperial Doughnut Break. Hardy was just ok, but the doughnut break was pretty damn good!

Hitting up Monday Night Garage’s Tears of My Enemies variant VIP release next weekend and just bought tickets for the Back To The Juice festival in March!

Ya it was a great festival. I didn’t even hit half the breweries haha. I did drink a lot of coffee too though. It’s by far my favorite beer fest.

Simple sugars will definitely dry them out. I've done it on purpose before, just depends what you want from a beer. how big (volume) was the recipe for 2 lbs of sugar to be added?

I've literally waited in line WITH YOU for beers, and told you about the Horus night at Native son so you could wait in line to chase whalez captain hypocrite. If he enjoys it, more power to him. Everyone always says the release is all about the people, the beer is just a nice lil bonus.

    Oh, and Happy Bday :luvya:

Had a bunch this weekend with a buddy visiting. A few I got pics of, including some old classics. Got a bottle of Xocoveza and wasn't super impressed. Also hit up Green Cheek, Terreux and Stereo in Anaheim. Stereo surprised me, I'd never been before, but it was pretty decent.

I go every year. Here’s your invite for next year.

I don’t wait in/camp out for beer. Except that one time for that stupid horus event which I will never do again. That was a mistake, should have just left. Not even worth. The line for Other Half at carnival of Caffeination on Saturday was ridiculous when it opened. I sure as shit didn’t even wait for that. Gave it an hour for everyone to get the hype out and then walked right up to the front.

    thanks :brianr:

I really like stereo. They don’t pump out anything super mind blowing but they do have a lot of pretty solid stuff. Never been disappointed with a visit there

Week 5 with my bottled Belgian tripel. Still flat with no apparent change in the past 2 weeks. After some reading, I’m now wondering if the yeast was done by the time I bottled it. It had two weeks in the primary and five in the secondary. Got a suggestion to try a Cask and bottle conditioning yeast. Maybe test a couple, pop the cap, add a small amount of yeast and recap.

Anyone here ever use bottle conditioning yeast?
