Sorry if this has been discussed before. What’s the best retractable cover that takes up the least amount of room in the front of bed? Must be able to still load a dirt bike.

    thanks guys!

Truxedo roll up bed cover takes no space at all and you can still have full visibility through the back window.

Have you looked at the Lomax? It's tri-fold but the entire cover can be removed in seconds for full bed space. Truxedo and Gator are two good brands if you are wanting a roll-up.

Originally I liked the Retrax or Pace Edward, but the more I looked, the ultimate cost ($1300+), made the negatives more difficult to get over. I went with the Truxedo Sentry CT because removal involves pulling 2 levers at the cab and lifting it off to fit my dirtbike. With the cover installed, I can still use the full 5 feet of bed space.

None of the coil up ones will give you what you want, especially in a short bed. I have the Lomax as well and you can remove it in seconds but still have all the protection.

Diamondback. You can put the dirt bike on top of it without sacrificing the bed space.

If you’re dead set on a retractable, look at TruckCoversUSA. The box is about 8” and it’s a very solid unit. like others have said, with a short bed space is a premium. You might need a bed extender with either bed though.

This. I have this retractable cover and mine takes up 6" of space, which does leave a few inches underneath as well which won't help w/ the dirt bike but still its a bit of space. It's such a solid tonneau cover, can put racks on it as I do and I carry MTBs and kayaks on top of the cover while keeping everything in the bed dry, locked, out of sight. Can leave it without racks and with a bed extender you would probably be able to haul a dirt bike no problem.

Take a look at the Paragon cover. Not the same as a traditional retractable more a 'fold up' but can be removed in seconds. Closed all the way up it should take up less room than a canister style one as well.

What Rack are you using with it for kayaks? I currently have a Bakflip and just bought a couple of kayaks. We haven't gone far with them yet, but jamming them both in the bed with my bakflip resting on top of them while folded up isn't the long term solution. thanks!

The tonneau I have was prewelded with yakima tracks on the rails, so I just have standard yakima towers and roundbars mounted to the cover, then use the Thule j-style racks on either side so I can carry 2 kayaks above the bed (and still have room for up to 3 bikes). This setup probably won't work with your backflip though. good luck!

Plan is to get rid of the Bakflip. It came on the truck, I like it, but it's a pain in the ass, and although its "waterproof" it's not lol. I think i'm going to buy the Yakima rack for now, then later down the line get a cover.
