Yeah I followed that same mindset on the FJC. I was appalled with it and realized I don't need to be, Toyota didn't mess with or change the cruisers.... Just added this FJC to the Cruiser Jr mix. Nothing wrong with that. I was being dumb lol

 

Well after I watched my buddy roll over every black diamond trail on 35s at Windrock with no front locker, just rear locker and ATRAC, I was sold.
Not sure I would buy one out right, given that they make a v8 4runner. But the trade for my KTM was worth it

My buddy is bringing his boom stick. He was a sniper in the army. He is rocking a 50, and some very slick .308s
He always surprises me. He is a vet now, but shoots 3 times a week. He trains law enforcement now as his part time gig.
My thing is period correct battle rifles, must be at least .308 to interest me though.

 

Looks like some chipping going on ,that’s most likely the problem

 

Hey brutha, yeah your right that is from those meaty tires ya got bouncing rocks against them. I have had the same issue before. After looking at your sliders coating, that Rustoleum I mentioned is gonna have a hell of a lot more texture than what you have. I think they make another brush on version that doesn’t have as much texture in it.
I will look.
It almost looks like the Duplicolor bed liner I used on the inside of my fj40.

 

Ok thanks ,any texture is fine with me . So sand and clean . What chemical if any should I use to clean them before painting ? Just alcohol?

 

I will need new tires by the end of summer ,maybe I should go with a taller skinny tire ? Rims are 17x8 running 285/70 in the summer . Tires in the picture are winter wheels . Stock 16” Steele’s with 265/75s

 

Sweet stuff. There's a NC young dude in the first gen section that also likes those historically significant rifles and he has a couple that are I know one of his was a Japanese rifle, I think it was WW2 era, that really caught my attention.
Japanese culture and history is fascinating. It's no wonder Toyota and other makers based from there have such high reliability and quality in their manufactured products
But yeah 50 cal would be something else to shoot. Especially with someone with that much experience with it.

A 255/80 is around an inch skinnier than my 285/70s @Built2Ride

 

Oh I know about them skinnies. That’s what I roll with in my Taco. I keep them rocks and mud in the wells

After a good sanding, lightly hit them with a coat of Rustoleum Rust Killer. Let me find it real quick. Shoots on clear and fades to a dull grey.

 

I’ve used the rust reformer that is flat black by Rustoleum .
