hey, I guessed right (totaled)! Sorry to hear that your truck is dead but at least you are alright and you can start over with a new, straight vehicle.

The new 2021 F-150 will make its debut this year, it may be worth the wait.

Personally I prefer the Tacoma 3g (figures) tundra is fun to drive and roomy but MPG is pitiful. New 4 runners are really nice and roomy if you get limited, gas mileage similar to Tacoma.

Normal Tundra drivers get about 13mpg. Those that drive with an imaginary egg under the accelerator get about 17mpg.

My gpa gets 14. This is a 2008 though. Let’s be honest, if you get that much power you’d want to use it. :D I always do

IMO this is best possible outcome of a bad situation, provided they gave you fair value. Glad you are OK. Fresh start. Time to go Truck shopping!

And the damage is always worse than they know and the bill will go higher. 8k turned into 14k on my truck. I was in the middle of a pileup :(IMG_20191217_115223_622.jpg

I don't know what the new F-150 will be like, Ford hasn't said much yet, maybe worth the wait, maybe not. However, there's nothing wrong with the current models. I know, the 5.0 V8 sounds like a safer bet, but the last changes seem to have brought problems with the cam drive system, and some oil consumption issues. It's hard to tell from the F-150 forums how wide spread this is, that forum is much like this one, you got fanboys, and gripe heads. The problems are real, I just don't know how common.

I love my Ecoboost, smooth, powerful, and almost the same fuel mileage as my 4 cyl Tacoma. Also, the extra cab 4x4 V6 auto Tacoma is nearly the same weight as my reg cab short bed F-150. I do like
the 10 spd auto as well. The Ecoboost power is at a very usable RPM too. Put your foot in the turbo, and it will move, and pulls the mountain like a diesel. I also like the electric power steering, best driving truck I've ever driven. I'm surprised I haven't gotten a speeding ticket. On the highway in 9th or 10th gear you can't hear it run at all, and I wasn't used to that, I'll look down and I'm going 65 or 70 and don't mean to be.

The Tacoma or Tundra are good trucks. I didn't want a great big double cab, and that's the only way a Tundra comes. The Tacoma doesn't have enough power to suit me. I bought the F-150 on engine power, the 10 spd, the way it drives, and the seats are nice for me, plenty high, and lots of leg room, and head room. Your opinion may differ, of course. Glad your okay, and that they did total your truck so you won't have problems if it wasn't repaired right. Good luck with your purchase, whatever you decide to go with. I was very dubious, but after driving one, I just had to have the F-150. I don't ever want another manual transmission, unless it's behind a diesel. Driving a diesel all those years ruined me for driving a manual gas engine, especially smaller gas engines...

I am also a member a Raptor forum since I entertained purchasing one a while back. Ford supposedly makes around 25k Raptors a year and it’s amazing to me the amount of lemon law buy backs on the forum for tranny issues, failed cam phasers, etc. The vast majority are trouble free but you always seem to run the risk buying a Ford.

Don’t get why everyone complains about gas mileage. It’s a truck. My previous 2013 x5 got 5.8 mpg in traffic and cruised around 13 mpg. These trucks are great considering my buddies fishing boat gets almost 1 mpg. And we run a couple hundred miles per trip when fishing for tuna.

My F150 shit the bed at 70k, I would not go that route. As much I adore the Tundra, I’m not sure it’s the best buy at the moment. The current Tundra has the worst gas mileage, lowest payload, lowest towing capacity, and least off-road capability on paper (no rear locker) of all the half tons.

If I were you I’d go 4Runner plus a utility trailer, as it can be more family friendly and compact for the most part, but even more capable than a pickup bed when need be.

Oh damn!! I live not far from there. I watched the YT video on the first page and was like "Hey! I know that street." I'm pretty sure I was eating at the Shotgun Dan's just down from there the day before.

Glad y'all are okay. And totally agree on the backseat for the tacoma. No kids for me so it's perfect for me and my dog. I don't have any experience with Tundras but I have a buddy that has a 4Runner with a 2 and 4 year old, and it's pretty spacious.

Maybe wait for the next tundra gen? But I think it's gonna be what 2021/2022 now last I heard. I wanted a tundra but I don't want 12mpg either. T4r gets even worse mpg than a tacoma when lifted and stuff like that, atleast from what I read in the t4r forums. They seem to bitch alot about cruise control like we do about shifting.

It looks the next generation Tundra will be a 2022 model. The only pro for the current generation is the legendary Toyota reliability. Many of them have done 300-400k trouble free miles. The major con is that it’s a gas guzzling dinosaur in the full size truck world.

FYI, once you reach a "fair" settlement the insurance will give you a few days with the rental then you are on your own. Better be ready to buy asap unless you have a spare car sitting around.

For those TW members in the auto insurance business; how close is my guess as to what will happen with this truck:

-Truck will be sold as a salvaged vehicle
-Buyer will be repair the truck except for the damage to the structural safety pillar
-Truck will be sold below market value with a salvaged vehicle title

    Fixed

Truck will go to IAA or Copart and sit as a future sale vehicle for months. The pre auction bid will hover around $3-6k

The auction will start and you'll have four guys bid it up. One from Mexico, one from Russia, one from California, one from Florida. The final bid price will be $16-18k depending on how bad someone wanted it.

They'll pay the fees/taxes which will add a bunch of more money. Let's not forget about the shipping

They all try their best to fix it up "nice" The vehicle ends up on Craigslist or the equivalent with some price that's barely few buck off clean title retail.

The price drops over the coming months, because even dumb buyers can't scrape together that much money. The truck finally sells for $22k, because someone only saw a price. Maybe they won the ghetto lottery aka a car accident etc

Buyer tells himself despite all the leg work it was worth it because he got to drive a vehicle for three months and made $500. Totally worth it

I always see Tacoma, WRX with salvage titles selling for damn near what a clean title one would sell for. I think novice people under estimate the dollars required or just think salvage title no big deal
