If @Dor 's fridge is 34 inches tall... and he slides it outward ... would he even be able to open the lid on it without hitting the flipped open Habitat?? 34 inches seems like a LOT. The bed of the truck is only like 19 inches deep isn't it? I don't think I could even look inside that fridge if it was 30 odd inches higher than the tailgate?? Maybe he has drop down setup?

Does anyone know the height from bed floor to top of rear opening (where we regularly scratch our backs)?

Yeah, when my Habitat is closed, I can't open my Fridge all the way (which is on top of a battery box with no slides). I can open it up enough to put a gallon jug in and out though, so it's not too bad to load before heading out for a trip.

And this is how my bed is setup full time, just throw a cooler in and take off. Will probably be getting a fridge sooner than later now that I have solar/dual batteries.

    20200210_100439.jpg

Nice and simple. Still use my truck for truck things, so nice to have camping stuff easily removable.

Knock off tire deflators, knock off maxtraxx, Chinese tankless water heater, chinese diesel heater, Amazon camping chairs, coleman stove, storage bins from target. My patches should definitely be revoked but I don't have any of those either.

i can stand on the ground and open the reefer enough to load or unload it, thats with it fully extended on slide. I can do that with the Habitat opened or closed. I do have a limit of opening due to my home-made "cabinet'. with Habitat open, I can open and remove the lid, while inside.

EDIT: Ah, just saw the other posts, haha. Yeah, that height is fridge + battery box (or other storage) and it would be on a drop slide, so the final height of the top would be max like 20" above the tailgate - just trying to raise it up to get it over the wheel well and shift it toward the passenger side. The fridge itself is only 18.5" tall.

Good call - I do, though if I locate my box just behind them I think I should be able to clear them well enough.

Ah, this is handy. Thanks! Yeah, the wheel well is definitely a problem. The fridge/slide are long enough that to avoid the wheel well I either need to move toward the driver's side (which obscures too much of the entrance to the bed for comfort) or build up and over it since it's only about 9.5" high - hence the thinking about putting all my electronics beneath it and using a drop or tilt slide. That might allow me to move pretty close to the passenger side wall, but I was worried about running into the habitat somewhere.

To be safe, I probably need to wait to get it on the truck before doing anything. The good news - talked to AT today and they have a habitat that will fit already in stock, so depending on options it may be a much shorter wait than I anticipated, lol.

I used a fridge once for a multi-week trip and access from the side was critical. Often times i wanted a quick drink when we were stopped or i forgot to get the drink when i had the swingout and gate open. The side access made it alot easier.

Just something to keep in mind

Yep, agreed. Putting it so high it can't be opened without sliding out is not my favorite thing. The alternative though is to position it driver's side of the passenger wheel well, and since with the slide the whole thing is 24" wide, which is more than half the space between the wheel wells and could make getting in/out a pain. If moving it up on top of a box allowed me to move it 3-4" toward the passenger side that might be worth the inconvenience of having to open everything and slide it out to get inside while everything is closed, idk.

Going to have to mock it up out of cardboard and look at the actual distances I think.

photo fridge location, 24 inch entry slot. the glove is in a nylon loop attached to floor, this I use for every entry or exit. I use knee mats on the tailgate that make all entry and exit possible. the 'narrow' entry. slot is pretty easy for me to negotiate. I actually bang my head or knee more often just getting behind the steering wheel.

yeah... somethings aren't really worth to spend the top $$$ for. I spend enough time inside the habitat to have a nice interior build out, plus it was an interesting and rewarding experience building it.

Habitat ordered. They had a 6 ft in stock, so it just needs to go off to be painted and in a month or so I'll be taking a ride down to Prescott. :D

We really liked Prescott. Went into the little town square area and ate/drank at the Prescott brewery after picking up the habitat. Met some really nice local people walking our dogs around the town. You live in a great place, hopefully it stays that way for the forseeable future!
