Maintenance Schedule

Hi All, my 20’ TRD OR is coming up on 5K miles, checked my manual but there is no mention of maintenance schedule. It mentions a supplement manual that lists that, checked Toyota owners but did not see a pdf listed, anyone knows how to obtain it? Thanks.

 

You should have the small manual that has the Maintenance Schedule, for 5K its basically just a tire rotation.

It still blows my mind that initial oil service is at 10K

 

I use my 19 Tacoma to tow trailers and my maintenance light just came on at 4500+ miles. High RMP 75-80+ MPH highway usage from 4600' to 11,500 ', says to change my oil and filter at 5K. My salesman also told me the same, I'll see what my service advisor say's when I call in AM.

 

I’m in Colorado also, this weekend went to my dealer service guy and he insisted that oil is at 10K, at 5K they rotate tires and top off fluids only.

I had my first oil change at 3000 miles I am old school. However I did have to pay for it, at the 5000 they paid for the oil change.

 

Everyone's maintenance light goes off at that interval.

The cool thing is that Toyota DOES make it easy to turn off the dang engine maintenance light! It is in the center dash screen, go to Settings and then down to Maintenance Reset. It will turn off the engine maintenance light. As for others, I was also quite surprised to find that Toyota recommends oil changes at 10,000 miles, especially for the first one. As a former mechanic, I can tell you that the first oil change is probably the most important of all, because a new engine is broken in and microscopic slivers of metal are bound to occur as new engine parts are being used for the first time. Changing that oil the first time will get rid of those slivers and thereby help to prevent them from getting into the cylinder sleeves, valves, etc. Right now, I am going with the 10,000 mile oil change, because it is free at the dealer for the first two years. After that, I will be going with my local mechanic and doing it every 5000 miles, as I did on my 96 Tacoma.

I've had this discussion a couple of times - I've never seen any kind of maintenance reminder come on with either 3rd gen I've owned.

Could be a difference with CDN trucks, but I do disable all maintenance horseshit on the head unit too

 

So it's there, you just turn it off. Not sure why Toyota would hate America's hat and not give them the maintenance reminder, maybe they do though.

 

I've had ppl argue with me that it can't be turned off.

 

Hm, I know I can turn off the individual reminders, but not sure why I'd want to turn off any of them.

 

Yeah it's def personal preference.

I do my own basic maintenance and am used to keeping track of intervals the old fashioned way I guess.

Lol, the dealer spams me with emails when they "figure" I should come in and hand them money anyway.

 

It’s modern trucks. There’s no sand left over from casting and whatnot like the old days.

that said I did a 1k change I’ll do one at 5 to 6k and then I’ll fall into the Toyota schedule at 10k. There’s no risk in doing them ahead. There’s probably no risk in doing it at 10k. But one has a lower risk even though higher risk is so low still. And it’s nice to get under there and work on it.

 

Yea I do all my own as well, it's just easier for me to leave the reminders and go off that.
