Ok what’s the deal with these Tacos? I had a 2016 and every time I’d come to a stop, I felt like the rear was getting bumped. I moved to a 2018 and have the exact same issue. What’s the issue here? Did I just get unlucky twice in a row? Is something not lubricated properly? Is something broken? It’s gotten me to the point that I’m almost afraid to come to a complete stop because I feel like I’m going to break something. Please help!

Can you expand a little on what "felt like the rear was getting bumped" means?

I get the same thing, I believe it is a hard downshift as these transmissions seem to shift a bit harder than all the other cars I've had, I'm guessing the rpm hasn't dropped yet for how quickly it downshifts.

Not sure who Fiona is but I'm about to watch Shameless now...

LOL turns out I'm Jon Snow and I know nothing haha never knew a drive shaft spline would do that. Coulda sworn it was a downshift but live and learn =)

So like imagine you're sitting at a stop sign. And someone comes up behind and bumps your rear bumper ever so slightly. Not enough to jolt forward but enough to make you go “What the hell was that??”

Yep, mines a 2018 and does the same thing coming to a complete stop when it’s cold out. But only the first or second time I apply the brakes, then it goes away. Made me look in the rear view mirror to see who hit me more than a few times though....
To me it feels like something in the rear brakes......I haven’t made time to check or service them yet.

I havent felt that in my 2020, but my old 2011 starting doing that at around 80k miles. Few mechanic friends said it might be time to flush and change the tranny fluid.

Grease your driveline/prop shaft. There is between 2 and 5 zerk fittings on a third gen that need to be greased regularly. My 17 gets "clunky" and even experiences a bit of the symptom you're describing when they start to get dry. It's a quick fix, especially after you've done it a couple of times.

Google how many grease fittings you have on your truck, get a grease gun/grease, lift the wheels off the ground, jack stands, put in neutral, crawl under the truck and look at the yokes - on the inside of the yoke connections there are zerks, clean off the zerk, carefully pump them up with grease - don't over do it, when you feel resistance stop, rotate your driveshaft/prop shaft until you see the next zerk, move your way down the driveline until there aren't anymore connections, feel proud of yourself, give your truck's oil pan a tickle, drop the truck back down, profit?

FYI- I’ve only ever found two grease fittings on my 2018 truck. Both on the front drive shaft and greasing them didn’t make any difference to my ‘clunk’.....

And I did the two on my 17 this past weekend and it fixed what OP described so... you should probably go trade your truck in.
