Hello everyone. I put Bilstein 5100's on my 09 Tacoma Dbl Cab 4wd recently and I have vibrations in the front end. Bilstein's are set at 1.75 with stock rear end. Both CV's have been replaced, vibes remain, primarily at low speed, intermittent..worse when weather is cooler..seems to change when 4wd engaged. I've ordered the ECGS bushing but I cannot find a shop in my area that will take on the job. Local Toyota dealer doesn't know what I'm talking about, said they've never heard of it. I'm in the South Georgia area. Anyone here near Valdosta Georgia area that has had this bushing installed. I simply do not have the tools or the time to attempt it. Thanks so much!

The Toyota dealer should have a clue because I think they had a TSB for this issue, I'm not sure what it called for as a replacement but I know I've seen guys post up about the TSB before.

Toyota won't install it because it's not an OEM part and they can't warranty the part or the work due to the part. Well at least the smart ones (and most on here have tried) won't install the ECGS bushing. They will just install another crappy needle bearing.

I did mine myself on jack stands in 4-5 hours with the help of a few other people. You just would need to get the ECGS puller tool and bearing press. Thing worked like a charm though and I'm glad I did

I watched this video several times before pulling the truck apart. It really wasn't as intimidating as I thought. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ4_7G12Esw

Thanks so much all for the replies. I sent an email to the Valdosta Toyota Service manager with the TSB and the ECGS replacement instructions. We will see what happens.

It's not that hard a job.
But ya, my driver's side needle bearing/ CV had lot of play. It pretty much vanished with the bushing installed.

You in Mass? I'll do it for you.

    And, welcome to TW.

Edit: I'll walk you through it, getting my hands dirty as needed. Lol

At a good point in time before the TSB needle bearing toyota was installing ECGS bushings as a fix if im not mistaken. The ecgs bushing is EASY to do so long as you have the right puller tool.

the job is not bad, but having the right tools makes life so much easier. I did mine alone with 4 jack stands and 4hrs of my time. Hardest part is getting the bearing removal tool in the shaft opening after that its a breeze. GL

Just went through this last week. There is indeed a TSB for this. My local dealer lied and said they didn't know about it, they didn't want to do any work under warranty on my '15. When I found out and brought them the TSB notice they admitted to knowing about it after all. Yet another reason to stay away from dealers... Durango Motor Company is a joke.

I thought about buying the puller and doing it myself, but wanted it done sooner than I could make happen. Found a local shop that does them so often, they keep the ECGS bushing on the shelf! It's not a rare job. $275 out the door. Well worth it IMO.

Someone near you must have done this before...

I'm north of Atlanta and did mine in about 4 hours. As someone else already said, the hardest part is getting the tool behind the old needle bearing to pull it out.

I have heard of Toyota dealerships doing the ECGS bushing replacement, but only on trucks that came lifted from that dealership.

If you want to drive up here, I can see about getting @Tacoturtle 's tool back from @Kloverz158 and we can knock it out. Though, you should be able to find people closer to you with experience. The south GA guys don't chime in the GA BS thread often, but I would ask in there and see if anyone knows of anyone in the area.

I had a local shop do our 2005 recently. I bought the bushing & the puller from ECGS and sold the puller tool to the shop. Great guys, it was the first one for them. They said the puller was a must-have and the job went well. Had a lot of axle slop and a low rumble before the fix. All good now.

Most Toyota stores will only install a Toyota part in this situation. With that said, most Toyota stores also know about the solid spacer. Talk to your local service writer about it. If they beg off go to a different store and try again.

The install process isn’t difficult but you will need a non standard 35mm socket for the CV axle flange nut. Everything else you’d find in your normal tool box. The tool that ECGS sells is from harbor freight and you’d likely get a better deal going to them direct with a coupon.

I agree with this advice. Increasingly I find my dealership is afraid to stray from the services that are standard. They typically price themselves out of bigger more involved services.

What does Harbor Freight call the tool?

Check the “harbor freight online coupon database” to see if there is a good coupon available.

Getting mine done at the ECGS shop in Raleigh, NC this Thursday. An hour and a half drive but I feel better since they know exactly what they are doing. $160 for part and install. Not bad considering it’s $100+ for the bushing and removal tool.

Took me about 4-5 hours to do. Hardest part was getting the cv axle to come out after that it was just alot of turns of the puller and i used a socket with a piece of dowl rod in the socket and slowing tapped the new bearing in. Bought the bearing 2 years ago wish i would have installed it back then. night and day difference.
