icon question???

so i called icon today and the said that to attain 3" of lift there should be 2.5" of thread showing. so i set the driver side at 2.5 and the passenger side at 2.25. will be running them with camburg ucas. what do you guys think? too high?

 

You should have just done before and after measurements to make sure for yourself.

As far as "too high", that should largely be determined by CV angles.

Also, according to the instructions that just came with my Icon kit, you're not supposed to exceed 2 inches of exposed thread between the shock top cap and adjuster ring.

 

cant measure cause im already lifted. just changing out parts.

i know the directions say no more than 2" but thats with stock ucas. so im not sure

My directions do not specify with stock UCAs. They state lifting above 2.5 inches with stock UCAs is not advisable, But up to 3.5" can be gained with aftermarket UCAs.

The way my instructions read, you shouldn't go over 2" of exposed thread EVER, but maybe they worded it weird.

AFAIK, 3" lifts run between 38 and 39 inches from ground through the center of the wheel hub to the top of the wheel well. The better measurement is center of wheel hub to top of wheel well, because it removes tire size from the equation.

Fair enough, but you still have to worry about your pinion angle, which is another reason not to go too high.

 

Did you get the extended travel? I had 2" driver and 1.8" passenger, and it netted me 3.1" lift

to jandrews...your right, i just re-read my little instruction sheet. it does say no more than 2". no im really confused why the guy at icon would tell me 2.5

 

Measure center hub to fender to see how much it is.

 

the shocks are not on the truck yet. guess i shouldve clarified that. i had them put in a spring compressor and adjusted the height that way. i do not have the spanner. was going to put them on today but, that 2.5" kinda made me think a few times and i thought id turn to you guys for some help and info.

 

well i adjusted the coilovers to 1.75 on the drivers and 1.5 on the passengers. right now on a slanted driveway, with 285/70/17s on there im sitting at just under 40" from ground to fender following the center of the wheel as best as possible. at first i thought i noticed some vibrations, but they seem to have gone away. not sure if its just do to settling or because im really feeling and looking for everything. overall stoked on the ride. much better than the procomp strut i had before.

I'm installing my ICONS this weekend and they say they come pre set at about 2" of lift. Both mine were factory set with 1.25" threads showing, so about 3/4" till the magical 2" threads showing mark.

So if it is actually set for 2" of lift already with 1.25" of threads showing, the other 3/4" I could crank up to would bring them to about 3.5" of lift.

I theorize my Revtek has settled down to about a 2.5" of lift and it's not 3" anymore, so I'm going to set them for 3" of lift. If it's too rough, I'm going to back them down to 2.5. But I'm figuring even at 3" they will be way better than the crap in there now.

Can't wait to install this shit!

 

so putting the coilovers in a spring compressor was a fast and easy way to adjust the preload. but now ive noticed a few scratches on the coil itself. should i worry about them, or ignore them? should i cover em up with something? if so what?

 

If it's down to bare metal, just touch up with paint to prevent rust.

 

Did you try to fully compress the front and turn right or left ??? I wonder if this would rub anywhere ??.

I have my shocks set up at the same height and planing to install a set of Revo's 285/75/16 on 4.5 bs. I all ready removed the mud flp and I have a Relentless front bumper. I am curious if I have to lift the front a little bit more , or not.

 

i have extended travel icons so i don't know if it's any different but i have 1 3/4" and 1.5" of thread showing, and i have 3" of lift up front

 

jandrews thanks. ya ill run to kragen or one of the other stores and grab a little bottle of the black touch up paint. really do not want these to rust.

 

i checked and i do not have any rubbing issues. theres a little trimming that youll have to do to the front plastic trim, but its not that bad.
