I think they might be a requirement now. Drove a new Porsche and they have gone to an integrated side turn signal which caught my eye. I vaguely remember him saying it was required now. I hardly suspect you’d get a primary offense over it not working.

 

There has to be turn signal indicators on the side of the vehicle, how it's done isn't mandated. Usually it's done with the amber side markers, which are required on vehicles.
