22R.... The e means electronic fuel injection.

Maybe it did last all the way to the beginning of the third gen pick up

It's been so long I don't even remember terminology anymore.

Throttle body injection and carb'd intake manifolds have to agitate the mixture, normal EFI port injected doesn't do this. So you need a custom intake manifold, mated to a properly spec'd carb.

Then you need a low speed pump with 7psi I think. You'd need an idle up with the power steering or it will fall flat. Etc etc etc.

This is a pipe dream, the amount of effort involved would be better spent diagnosing the problems.

You could always run a Holley Dominator or terminator computer that's popular for carbed LS swaps

but honestly just fix whatever problem your truck has

get a new maf, upstream 02 sensor, throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, make sure fuel pressure is good, injectors, engine coolant temp sensor (the one in front by the upper rad hose), cam and crank angle sensors, as well as knock sensors, than your truck should run like new

    I've driven a 1988 Carb'd 22R, it was a camper model from the states.

100% the SLOWEST vehicle I've ever driven.

I've also driven a 22RTE with POWER WINDOWS!!!! and automatic transmission!!!

Slowest turbo vehicle of the 80s. It's almost like the turbo wasn't even there.

I wish sbc swaps were as popular as the 80's Hilux , you just don't see sbc or LS swaps anymore

    I had a nice 500 hp 400sbc in my 82 Toyota Hilux

People shit on the 3VZ (including myself) but it was truly dire that Toyota make more than 130hp to sell more trucks in North America. The 5VZ was the final correct answer.

I've also driven a turbo 4.5 I6 LC, briefly, but once. The V8 again was the better solution eventually (I can say this after working on many straight 6 LC's)
