I maybe a noobie for saying this, but...

I was at a bar and a brand new Chevy four door Z71 parked behind me Stock vs. stock.

The Silverado's body was obviously slightly taller, but I clealrly had more ground clearance.

Nothing to see and no pics, I just thought it was pretty neat. I'm not going to lie. Before I bought my new Tacoma, I was looking hard at some GMC Sierras and am very happy with my final choice.

I'm still not sure if my Tacoma is a POS or not, but we have 95 or so chev trucks at work and I know they are POS's so I decided to roll the dice on a Tacoma & I plan on having it a looong time

the exposed design of the rear wheel wells on all Silverados and Sierras make me want to throw up...other than that it's ok, but still a little too big, seems like lots of wasted space

 

That doesn't even make sense.



My dad has a GMC 2500 and his sits low in the front. He plans on getting it lifted so he can have some ground clearance

I had two 1500 Silverados before the Taco.
Both Chevys had quite a few little problems and they both also had steering columns fall apart (literally) within a few months of purchase.
Although very comfortable and nice to drive, I couldn't tolerate the quality issues. Some folks love their Chevy trucks and keep them for a long time. Why ? I don't get it.

 

I'm in my 3rd Taco and considered getting something different at first.

I did some research on the Silverados and Sierras and many complain of them burning oil.

 

+1...you pay that much for a government motors truck, and they can't put a $3 fenderwell liner on it. i looked at a sierra awhile back, but absolutely nothing about it appealed to me.

 

Our Tacomas have the Best approach and ground clearance than any other truck I've seen at a stock. Now once you add a lift and premium offroad bumpers, nothing else can rival. My co-worker has a TRD Tundra and with my 3" lift, my front front has at least a foot's worth of clearance and as for the sides, probably about a good 6". We are definetaley clear to travel the unbeaten path a little better than all our other bretheren trucks.

 

For some reason Chevy and GMCs have the body up rather high when compared to the frame. It's kinda weird.

 

anyone know what the TRD 4x4 has for ground clearance stock, i googled it real quick and didn't come up with much, i told a guy i work with that i was going to pick up my 06 TRD sport this weekend and he went on about how they suck and his stupid a%$ 2011 Z71 he just paid $33k for that gets 13.5mpg (what he says...) is so much better bla bla, i'd love to throw that fact at him cause it looks like the taco smokes the domestics in this category

he got the 405hp model just cause, and now gas is approaching $3/gal here, i just laugh

 

My dad has an '06 Silverado DC 4.8L 2WD...he has had to replace tires on it twice cause they keep getting bald from incorrectly designed front end components - no amount of alignment can correct the issue...he took it to the stealership and they said nothing was wrong with it even after they knew he had replaced the tires twice...the tires squeal when you turn into a parking spot...the interior squeaks and rattles when you get in and the backseat rides like a horse carriage from the old west when on the highway and his tailgate won't let down cause the mechanism in the handle broke - he doesn't even use the bed!...I've owned 3 toyotas in my time ('86 2WD 4spd sold it for $800 after the ORIGINAL timing chain on it broke at 282K and being fender bendered twice and flipped once, a '94 Ext Cab 4x4 5spd -sold it with 156K and my current truck) without even the slightest hiccup...I will never buy a domestic vehicle as my daily transportation.

 

Tacoma for the win! AGAIN!!!

 

I would just pull it up next to his POS Govt motors ride and say hmmmm, looks like somebody has better clearance, better mpg, lower pricetag, and oh by the way, EXTREMELY HIGHER Resale value.

 

that's the big one, and i usually say, we'll see who's is still on the road 15 years from now, even tho he's got a 5 year head start on me, i still think the toyota will outlast

 

yea.. according to KBB my truck (in this market) is worth more a year old, than I paid for it out the lot last week, same with my scions. But.. my GMC.. well I paid about 36 and sold it 2 years later for 19.


But, contrary to some posters.. I had the 5.3 in that truck and got the same mileage and a more comfortable ride and better utility out of the GMC. It was really a great truck... not your grand dad's GM. My 99 tahoe was a turd.. but 2004 gmc was a whole different car. No similarities. It was giant, and couldn't fit in my garage and I actually got parked in at walmart because another truck was parked behind me (across the aisle) and it was too big to get out, and I once got stuck on flat ground because the grass was wet.. but for what it was.. it was a great truck. 2wd, low and handled great.

I also have to add, that I would follow around people in their lifted jeeps everywhere in texas in my stock tacoma, and right behind me? A guy in a vw bug. Its not all about the ground clearance.
