I'm a firefighter/paramedic. Please understand this is code from the PIO meaning "none of your damn business." This is thanks to a news media that loves to sensationalize things.

If we roll up to a scene and find a fatality in a vehicle, we're going to try and extricate that patient as quickly as possible to confirm that they are deceased UNLESS we have multiple other patients we determine are alive and immediately salvageable. (Google MVI/MCI and START triage.) In this case, you have multiple victims AND an unsafe scene. In this scenario, I walk up to the fatality, check for breathing, reposition the airway, check for a pulse. If the patient has nothing, investigation over, and I move onto someone who is breathing and does have a pulse. Those on scene who were alive were saved, and the one who wasn't breathing went home to Jesus. There's no actual determination on scene how the patient died. Could've been multi-system trauma, could've been fire, hell could have been from a heart attack that occurred before the accident... we don't know. We save viable patients. They're not going to say this in a press release, of course, because it tends to flair emotions. So they just say "died as the result of the collision" and leave it at that.

A true determination of death is not made until autopsy anyhow.

Edit: so I don't scare anyone into thinking if you get a paper cut EMS will let you die, this is a decision we're forced to make from time to time. We will always levitate to the patient in the worst shape initially. But if I have 2 trauma patients, both unresponsive, one with a pulse and one without, I'm going to scoop up the one with the pulse and run for it.

nada....maybe a license plate one day & BA bumpers
being a cali native, I can assure all it is a rough & dangerous place to drive....its like war out there at times
(in my younger days we called it killa kali, & above video proves this)

I always check intersections in ALL directions as I pass through even if it is my right of way...sometimes you need to step up & save an accident
sadly, I do it way to often in California
I want to get home to my family when I am done driving for the day, not the hospital or graveyard
conversely in Klamath county (Oregon) the driving is easy & at most times a pure pleasure

this video is 1 of a 100 reasons I decided to move north....didnt want my kids growing up in the chaos

Hope so.. they hurt so bad. Especially if you get some salt in there from your french fries at lunch. I mean you know you have the paper cut but then you drive past, and the smell draws you in. You eventually cave, get excited and BAM! Your finger throbs so you move to the burger, forget about your finger then grab another fry... god damn it! It’s really and endless cycle of torture.
