What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Does anyone have any experience with a P0773 code? I know it points to one of the shift solenoids, but I'm unsure of what brand/PN# to get as a replacement. The code has been going on for a while now, but now its starting to act up and not shifting correctly. most of the time its shifting 'lazy'.

Looks like you got it with the picks and some pliers. What parts do you need to order? Just new snap rings? I replace the spiral locks with normal internal snap rings.

The conventional snap ring is way more reusable and less of a PITA than the spiral locks that rust out a lot quicker than the chromate plated c clips I provide.

Either way you are basically buying the same parts and you're at least doing the maintenance that most neglect and eventually take out the rod end.

They definitely made a racket long before the ball got into the aluminum. And really when they are easy to move by hand or start squeaking it's time to replace them before it gets to much slop to wears out other expensive parts.

EDIT: Tips, I clean the bore with a rag, brake clean ect, install 1 side and press in the uniball until it hits the snap ring and put the other ring in. I don't normally grease the rod end bore but a light film wouldn't hurt. Definitely anti seize the bearing reducers and the bolts when you install them.

 

Exhaust hanger bracket decided it didn’t way to do its job anymore out on the trail so got to do some custom wire work to keep it from slamming into my shock.

 

I hate those rubber hangars, they come apart so easily if your truck rocks back and forth a lot offroad. I think I've bought half a dozen of them from Pep Boys over the last few years, probably doesn't help that they're generic quality auto parts store ones.

 

The worst part is, is that it wasn’t even the rubber pieces! It was the hanger welds that separated from the muffler.. fricken bs man haha

Back has been hurting so rotating 35s is out of the question today. Came to a mom pop shop and they are insisting front goes back and rears go up. No crossing. My understanding is that the fronts cross when going to the rear right?

 

Cross is ideal. But back to front is kind of the norm for shops these days with all the directional tires about. If your tires are worn evenly on both sides crossing isnt 100% necessary

That is the correct traditional style to do it.

At work we only do it if requested. Or if the tires are wearing unevenly side to side. Otherwise it’s front to back

I did split a set of Durobumps myself (front ones)...but I was one of the first group to order a set and Tim (I think that was his name) was really cool about sending me another, said that he changed them a bit from the first prototype.
