I probably run one of the highest boost numbers out of the bunch (15psi) and I still run the original recommended Heat range 6 IKH-22 style NGK plugs.

Hey guys, been having an oil pressure problem I haven't been able to sort out.

When at idle my pressure likes to drop to zero or near zero. Oil level is good and dummy light hasn't come on so no leaks as far as I can tell.

My aem guage seems to react when under throttle and go up to 40 (+/- 10 psi) but once off throttle the pressure seems to bleed down. Removed and cleaned the sensor just to cover bases.

I emptied my catch can around the time this problem popped up and I think it's related. The catch can looks good and the O-ring looks ok but maybe it is damaged. Could this cause pressure bleed down like I'm seeing?

    Any input is appreciated...

I would check the sensor with a multimeter first. The catch can is no way tied into any pressurized portion of the oil system. It only catches oil vapors. If you open the catch can loop to the atmosphere then you just have a massive vacuum leak of unmetered air downstream of the MAF and oil vapor venting to the atmosphere from the PCV.

check the sensor with a multimeter first to ensure it meets factory specs. If it passes, then I would think the oil pump is starting to go. I can check the service manual for troubleshooting procedures.

Agreed. The best way to ensure the sensor is operating correctly is to check it with a multimeter. That will rule out sensor defectiveness. That needs to be done first.

I did a quick check (winter outside) but it was hard to tell other than the voltage seemed good. Couldn't find any documentation or details on what I should see. The fact that it responds to pressure changes and was reading zero in atmosphere indicated it was good to me. I will investigate it further though.

You can pull it off and use an air compressor with a regulator to confirm the sensor and/or the gauge as well.

maybe an oil change/filter replacement? check your catch can lines. possible clog?

could a boost gauge be tested this way?

The boost gauge is just a glorified MAP sensor. If you have a hand operated pressure pump you could apply pressure to it and you should see the boost go up to the exact amount that is indicated on your pump.

May have to do that. Only have a shitty tire compressor but do have a good regulator lol

Hell dude, you can use a bike pump if it will fit over the port, especially due to the fact that it is hand operated will allow you to have better control over the amount of pressure that it should be displaying.

If you guys need the manual for the AEM gauge I can get it for you.

Yes. This is how I troubleshoot the connection cable vs the sensor. You can build boost without being under load so it is really hard to check voltage while driving.

you just need to hold a known steady pressure within the correct range to confirm correct voltage output from the sensor and then correct reading on the gauge. Is it analog or digital? If analog, the pickup motors can go out easily.

I have the one page manual it came with but no info on what voltages I should be reading on the wiring going to the sensor.

I'm guessing 12v constant on one wire and 0-5v on the other depending on pressure applied.

Boost is relative... MAF is power!! :D

I thought there should be three wires, ground, hot and a return wire to the gauge. Is this a separate spec sensor or does it tap into factory? The aftermarket gauge will have its own specs in accordance with the gauge step motor or rheostat. I called speedhut to get the specs. You may have to reach out to AEM.
