    Hello all,

First of all, thank you so much for this forum, so much great info and write ups here, I have just bought my first 2017 Tacoma SR access cab and have been reading the site non stop for 3 weeks since I bought my truck. Already have done the intermittent wiper and cruise control mods, so extremely easy thanks to your guys guidance, and have a gazilion windows open with different mods to follow up, every time I open a thread it leads to something else just as interesting to follow up.
With so much to read and so much distraction (in a good way) I’m yet to find a few answers to my next mods and I’m hoping some of you veterans of the site may be able to shed some light.

So, let me get to my question for my next mod, I have read on both the keyless entry and the pop & lock tailgate mods and want to do both, but for the pop & lock instructions I’ve found so far, the installation is done on trucks with factory keyless entry, so, what I’m wondering is if the pop & lock install will be the same and the functions
    What I’d like to have when the installation is complete is;

1 - The actual key and fob all in one piece
2 - The tailgate unlock when truck is put into park (right now it unlocks the doors when I put in park)

Appreciate the help and thanks for having me

I'm not as knowledgeable on these topics as some of the others, but towards your #1, one possibility might be the "Flip Fobs" as discussed in this thread...

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/meso-minimalist-key-fob.611273/

On page 27 (I think) post #538, he refers to "SR5s" and needing for it to be an "H" key, but if it would work for an SR, it might provide key & fob in one.
I don't know if SRs have H keys or not.

Also, post #500 has a video for the Flip Fobs.

Enjoy your truck, and the modding.

Since the Tailgate Unlock Solenoid would be attached in parallel to the Passenger's or Driver's Door Unlock Solenoid, it'll do what ever the door unlock/lock solenoid will do.

Contact @KTJO 4x4 for a no cut harness to attach your Tailgate Solenoid...

I’m reading up on that thread, reading the whole thing so I don’t miss anything, thanks

Perfect, that’s what I had suspected, but not being mechanically inclined, much less knowledgeable about electrical stuff I thought I should ask, I can follow instructions just fine, but if something doesn’t do what it’s supposed to do, I’d be stuck.

What is the no cut harness? Is it a necessary item or an improvement to the kit supplied by Pop & Lock?

    Thanks again guys!

I know that the SR5 and upper levels you can have your doors lock and unlock how you want too (Settings). I wired my Pop-in-lock to my passenger door. My preference is that the tailgate will only unlock when I open all the doors. Since I am normally the only one in the car my fob is set one push of the button opens my drivers door. When I put my transmission in park I unlock only the drivers door.

I still much prefer my own installation, as it just made the most sense to me! I will attach again, the official Toyota installation instructions too. They are 20 pages long and in pdf format. Here is a link to my video showing and detailing what is involved:

Are those settings available for the trucks without a fob key, I’m still learning about the truck, so haven’t looked at those settings yet, also, I thought I had an SR, but running the VIN says I have SR5 I4 for trim, I don’t have fob, did not come with cruise control, intermittent wiper, don’t have seats in the back (useless for me anyway) 6 ft bed, 4 cylinder... again, just getting used to the Toyota/Tacoma world, no pun intended :)
I’d be ok with same settings as yours as far as using the fob, but I just wanted to make sure the tailgate unlocks with putting in park, which looks like it does according to caribe

Here’s my truck, not this actual one, but identical, gotta change that black bumper and those wheels lol

Nice, just changed the unlocking doors when put into park, now it no longer unlocks, you guys are awesome. Now I gotta figure out how to make opening my door from the inside unlocks all doors, including the tailgate when I make the installation later on.

"My door" = Driver's Door? (via handle?)

Yes, drivers door via handle, is it doable?

So, when I made last reply I was just getting ready to ride my bike, but it started raining, so I left, and guess who just got to use his newly installed intermittent wiper? This guy!

So now I’m home and have more time to look at those settings...

One recommendation, wire a simple interrupt switch between your pop-n-lock and the lock circuit on your truck, to limit the wear and tear on the pnl. This gives you the ability to keep the tail gate locked regardless of what the door locks are doing, until you need it unlocked. Most of us don't need the tailgate to lock and unlock every single time the door locks and unlocks, which can be a lot in a typical day. The pnl is a decent product, but it's not the same level of quality of the trucks locking mechanism and it will wear out eventually.

The Front doors unlock via the handle in a mechanical way, it does not have a tie into the electrical unlock signal. Not impossible to achieve what you want, but....

So I watched your video now, for me, I want exactly the opposite of what you got, I DO WANT the tailgate to unlock everytime I’m getting out of the truck, ultimately I want the tailgate to unlock everytime the drivers door is opened from the inside, 1 or 2 clicks on the fob to lock or unlock wouldn’t matter really, I can deal with either one

Ah bummer, I guess I’ll be back to unlocking via park, my Jeep would unlock all doors via drivers handle, I liked that, oh well!

Hmm, so I guess there’s something else I should look into...
